Can any one argue it wouldn't be a good thing for the world to see this regime fall?

Brutal sex attacks on victims as young as 12 used by Iran

Known for their brutality, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) slaughtered thousands of protesters who dared to take to the streets in anti-government protests in January.

Yes the lives of Iranians were hard enough without having their loved ones killed and their homes destroyed by Israeli and American bombs.

CoalTit · 17/04/2026 07:53

Iran had a secular democracy in the fifties under Mohammed Mossadeq, and guess who couldn't bear it and set about staging a coup and subsequent regime change with the help of the USA?
Yes, it was the British. They installed the Shah with his secret police and rapes and tortures, and gradually the Iranians built up a force vicious, fanatical and determined enough to overthrow him.
If the British hadn't been so determined to undermine and destroy Iran's democracy, Iran could have done something other with its resources than endless war and the mindset that goes with endless war.

Twiglets1 · 17/04/2026 08:12

The British and the US actions back then do not cover them in glory, quite the reverse.

However, it was decades ago and the IRGC need to be held responsible for their own actions. They are a proscribed terrorist organisation who have not done Iran any favours talking of rape, torture and murder of Iranian people as well as the people of other countries via their proxies.

There are some countering with support for it to stay.

Where do you see this support on MN?

There are a few posters on this board who like to say that the protestors are actually rioters brought in by the US and Israel and that the death toll is made up by the Western media.

Really? I must have missed those posters

I have seen plenty of posters accussing people of supporting the IRGC if they criticise US/Israel actions

The best thing for the world right now would be in the regimes in Iran, Israel and America all fell.

I have seen that comment made on MN too so although you missed it @TopPocketFind that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I agree that new and more moderate leaders in Iran, Israel and the US would indeed be a good thing.

You may not have seen them but they do exist.

I didn't say that, did I?

The second part of my post does happen frequently in many threads though

I don't doubt they exist and I hope they get called out on it.

I was just asking where that poster encountered them.

I thought we had moved on from pretending this war is about helping the people of Iran.

Did anyone on this board say it was only about helping the people of Iran?

Regime change would have been a welcome outcome but that has to come from within Iran and hasn't happened (yet). The war will have weakened the regime economically and militarily though and this could mean regime change comes around sooner rather than later, hopefully.
