Such a disgusting regime - this is not a new practice either.

Iran authorities demand large amounts of money for return of bodies
mids2019 · 16/01/2026 00:02

Agreed. The Iranian regime has shown its true self. Freedom.

Twiglets1 · 16/01/2026 07:01

The family of a Kurdish seasonal construction worker who could not afford the fee were forced to leave without their son’s body - imagine the heartbreak of that.

Construction workers in Iran typically earn less than $100 dollars a month.

The fee for collecting the body was $7,000 dollars.

inamarina · 16/01/2026 07:48

It’s so utterly twisted and heartbreaking. Pure evil.
There also seem to be reports from human rights organisations and eyewitnesses that Iranian authorities are pressuring the families of killed protesters to sign documents attributing their deaths to "rioters" or "terrorists".

Ihatetomatoes · 16/01/2026 09:39

Vile regime. I hope it falls and the people of Iran have a less repressive future.

True, it’s not a new practice in the region. It’s been practiced for at least fifty years. It is truly vile to confiscate the body of a civilian adult or child killed by unlawful lethal force and then demand payment from the grieving family.

Kingscallops · 17/01/2026 11:14

To think of the uproar when Trump backed Israel over Iran's nuclear weapons. The useful idiots struck - again.

I recall Hamas playing similar tricks with dead bodies. I hope you recoiled in horror, then. Is Hamas distguinshed from Iran?

Hamas and the Iranian and current Israeli governments are all doing some pretty unpalatable things that are clear human rights violations. This is very much not the case that one side being evil makes the other side ‘good’.

When people criticize the actions of the Israeli government and armed forces it’s because many thousands of innocent lives have been deliberately lost in the process, in a manner that makes it clear there is a deliberate genocidal policy by Israel.

The horrendous brutality of Hamas, which I abhor, is likely to be a response to the brutality experienced by Palestinians for 70 years.

To get back to the actual topic: not just the Iranians but also the significant numbers of Afghan refugees in Iran (who are treated like scum) deserve better than this. I just hope when the regime finally falls that it’s replaced by a stable, just government and not complete societal breakdown.

KatiePricesKnickers · 17/01/2026 11:36

@LadyGreySpillsTheTea ”there is a deliberate genocidal policy by Israel.”

There isn’t. Israel has the means to have killed a million Palestinians if it had wanted to carry out a genocide. The fact over half the dead are terrorists speaks for itself.
This is why rational governments have not (and will never) turn their backs on Israel.

Well even Israel knows it wouldn’t get away with the traditional ‘kill a million at once’ form of genocide. There’s an interesting debate about the point when mass murder and destruction of infrastructure with genocidal intent shifts to actual genocide, and I think the Israelis have reached that point in the past few years.
Interesting that your definition of a ‘rational’ government is ‘one that agrees with my opinion’. Rational is not a good basis for human rights issues, and the vast majority of human rights experts have condemned Israel’s actions as illegal and immoral. As they also rightly condemned Hamas in orchestrating 7 Oct 23. This is all - in Iran too - about innocent people suffering from immoral governments desperate to cling on to power.

@KatiePricesKnickers Show some compassion and maybe don't spread Israeli lies and propaganda. Too much to ask I know, given the propaganda and lies you've already spread. Sad.

Quite. Those ‘genocidal’ Israelis who have done more than any other military in history to minimise civilian deaths, losing thousands of their own soldiers in the process. A massively superior and technologically advanced military force who dropped the equivalent of 3 nuclear bombs or 6 Hiroshimas on a densely populated urban 27 mile long strip of land but only managed to kill less than 1.75% of the civilian population despite those civilians being used as human shields as a warfare strategy by their own Government and being afforded absolutely zero protection in the form of safe refuge by non hostile neighbouring countries! Israel could have just carpet bombed the place in a few days, saved a lot of military expenditure and mort importantly, saved their soldiers. They wouldn’t have been viewed any differently by the anti-Israel contingent on here if they had.

Very true. The anti Israel people on this board (though they deny that is their stance) never understand why rational governments support Israel. You see the confusion in their posts about this over & over again.

But as people with a more balanced view of the conflict understand, Israel could have been actually genocidal if they wanted to be - they could have bombed Gaza so extensively & indiscriminately they killed all of the Hamas operatives and supporters in there. Alongside many thousands of ordinary civilians of course but if they were truly genocidal in intent, would that bother them?

Israel has shown so much more restraint than their enemy would have shown them had the situation been reversed & Hamas been the stronger side.

That is why Hamas are designated a terrorist regime. Made up entirely of religious extremists like their paymasters in Iran, whereas the Israel government is not. Extremist regimes are the ones that get no support from functional governments around the world, they only support each other. Hamas & the Iranian government have this is common- they use fear & bullying tactics to oppress their own people. And they would be genuinely genocidal if they got the opportunity to destroy all Jews.

So very distasteful, unpleasant and crafty to use the shocking situation in Iran as a weapon in your war against the poor Palestinians.
