I feel that as there is limited information from Iran this has been underplayed but I like many have the tiny hope it can lead to real change in Iran and a change of government. I don't know if the US should necessarily engage but if it boosts the morale of the protesters so be it.......we also have to say the US president is considering action that would save innocent Muslim lives.

Iranian officials warn Trump not to cross ‘red line’ over threats to intervene in protests

US president’s posts that US will come to the rescue of protesters prompt warnings of ‘regret-inducing response’

If 'The West' intervene, they'll be criticised, if they don't, they'll be criticised.

Maybe some Muslim countries might like to intervene?

I wonder what really is happening in Iran at the moment.
Maybe it's a big moment maybe not.....time will tell.

I do hope that the Iranian people can overthrow their vile mullahs.

I think it's good that Trump has threatened to intervene, even if he doesn't actually intend to (who knows with him). The unpredictability of Trump is what makes him scary to other leaders.

In Friday's post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "If Iran shots [sic] and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue."

Shortly after Trump's latest social media post, Khamenei adviser Ali Larijani issued a warning of his own.

"Trump should know that US interference in this internal matter would mean destabilising the entire region and destroying America's interests," he wrote.

But for some of the protesters, intervention from the US would be welcome.

"They [security forces] are afraid and they shake to the bones when Mr Trump says something or Mr (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu says something," a young woman protesting in Tehran told the BBC's Newshour programme.

Preferring to stay anonymous for her own safety, she said protesters had been asking for US support for years, because the security forces "believe that if Mr Trump says something, he will do [it]", and they "know if anything happens, they would have to take the consequences".

Eight people are reported to have been killed since protests started on Sunday.

Opponents to the old Syrian regime were armed and experienced - the Iranian opposition is neither of these, so there is a potential bloodbath.

Which way the armed forces jump will be crucial. External involvement is best avoided, but if push comes to shove, bombing a few RG bases might be very helpful.

Wouldn't it be great to see a peaceful and moderate Iran? A place I'd love to visit.

Yes it would be great to see a peaceful and moderate Iran. I wish it to happen for the people of Iran.

Demo in support of the Iranian people outside the Iranian Embassy in London 2-4 today.

it would be fantastic to see the people gain freedom in Iran - I don’t agree with Trump on much but this could really prove him to be a force for positive change and even world peace.
Imagine if it spread to Afghanistan? Surely Trump will have that on his list to rescue as well, particularly given Biden’s withdrawal cocked things up so badly.
This support might be the boost that oppressed people in those regions have needed for years. Hope there’s a good turnout at the embassy today - go Iranians! 🇮🇷 💪

I think this is something the Iranian people very much need to do themselves, but of course there will be operatives on the ground from, say, Mossad and the US who are behind some of what is going on. The US openly going in to intervene I don't think is the right course of action.

My prayers are very much with the Iranians to overthrow that terrible regime and replace it with a democratic one.

Any protests outside embassies in the Muddle East? Or just London?
