“Israeli police arrested a Palestinian man dressed as Santa Claus during a raid on a Christmas party in Haifa, a civil rights monitor has said.
Israeli officers closed an event celebrating Christmas on Sunday, confiscating equipment, and arresting the Palestinian Santa Claus, as well as a DJ and a street vendor. In a video, police can be seen pushing the men to the ground and handcuffing them as bystanders watched.”

jesus, they couldn’t stop even for a day

Jews and Israelis never seem to get a day off from being misrepresented and lied about. Food for thought don't you think?

The Palestinians are not allowed peace for even 1 day, simply for the crime of existing and refusing to flee their ancestral land.

The lack of self awareness by the Israeli authorities of how it would look to the outside world arresting someone the kids in the region call ‘Baba Noel’ speaks volumes.

They were simply celebrating as a lot of the world does during this time of year. Dancing the Dabka, but nope no joy allowed.

I wonder what their excuse was. I guess they just don't like seeing Palestinians happy or celebrating something.

The only way this can be turned around is if you hold your elected officials to account.

Your prime minister is holding your country hostage - if they drop charges against him he will stop his government.

This is not the world's problem, or an anti Israel anti Jewish problem - this is a political problem with political solutions.

My post was about forces of the Israeli government, in this case the Israeli police’s continued cruelty towards, and harassment of, the Palestinian population.
your introduction of the term Jews into this conversation is unhelpful and encouraging of anti semitism. Jews are an extremely diverse population many of whom are appalled at what has been done in Gaza and by the systematic persecution of Palestinians.

Do you make such unpleasant comments/generalisations about other religions/races or just Jewish people?

Anyway I would report your post but I think it's useful to see people for what they really are and we see you.

MyCatStoleSausages · 26/12/2025 10:12

I thought this was a headline from one of those satirical newspapers it's so dastardly. I saw a video of the Archbishop of York talking about how he was intimidated by Israeli militias on a recent visit to Bethlehem. It's sad that people can't celebrate this special time of year without harassment and intimidation.

Another staunch pro Israeli poster in the last couple of days spoke about Palestinian peoples victim hood so just in case you thought it was just one side it's not .

And that makes it okay does it? Do you counter every one poiting out a racist mark with "yeah well other people are racist too"?

Reach much????

Martymcfly24 · 26/12/2025 13:35

Anyway sorry @Everexpanding but I never replied to you. Id love to say I'm surprised but at this stage .

Not really. Someone made an offensive comment about Jewish people and your response was "yeah but some of them have said the same thing".

An odd comment. Where in the OP does it mention Jews?

I'm not derailing the thread (because that is often the mission of comments like this) but I was replying to this
Do you make such unpleasant comments/generalisations about other religions/races or just Jewish people with the fact that those unpleasant comments and generalisations are made about other people and left to stand.

I'm Irish (Catholic by background) and live in the UK at the moment - which government should I be holding to account?

Most of this isn’t about religion at all.

Are all people dressed as Santa immune to commiting crimes and bring arrested for them or just Palestinians?

Everexpanding · 27/12/2025 07:26

Any nationality of police closing down a Christmas party and arresting a man dressed as Santa Claus in front of kids, would have made headlines as it just seems so bizarrely cruel, could they not have waited until the kids were gone? Are Palestinians not allowed any joy?
actually surprised it was reported the Israeli government has been practicing everyday petty cruelty and humiliation on Palestinians for decades

I have to ask. When you say this is so bizarrely cruel or mention Israel practicing petty cruelty. Are you unaware of what is actually going on there? Do you not have access to social media where you can see exactly what is going on live streamed? Where have you been for the last 26 months? If you're disturbed by this then perhaps ignorance is bliss because if you knew what was really going on you would never sleep again and you would certainly never look at the world in the same way and you would most certainly question why our government are using our taxes to support this and our taxes to arrest hundreds of their own people, holding some in prison with no charges for more than a year. Why? For them merely asking them to stop funding and supporting this. Perhaps our government could fund our infrastructure, our NHS, our education. How many families have to rely on food banks? We do not live in a democracy and our freedoms are being stripped away. The future generations will never know these freedoms ever existed. Mumsnet will clearly delete my post because God forbid I hurt anyone's feelings with facts and truths.

BelleHathor · 27/12/2025 10:09

Most of us including Everexpanding have watched the live streamed in 4K destruction of the Palestinian people and their land for the last 26 months. We know, the images of dead children given to their parents in plastic bags weighed according to their approximate age will never be forgotten. Or the burned corpses or Hind Rajab whose name we at least got to learn.

And you are right, our government is wholly complicit.

@putini totally agree with you, far far greater crimes have been committed against Palestinians, 20,000 dead children in this Israeli incursion alone many many others over the years, 1000s of children orphaned, left with lifelong trauma or grave injuries like amputations, homes, hospitals, infrastructure and farmland destroyed. Sometimes the small mean minded petty cruelties carried out daily for years just strike you, it’s what I really noticed in Louis Theroux’s documentary, how everyday life is just made more difficult for Palestinians, small daily humiliations alongside the many many more grave injustices

OP posts:
Everexpanding · 27/12/2025 10:53

What’s interesting about this is that it is being reported in the context of increased attacks on Palestinian Christians, bit of luck it may further weaken public support for Israel in America, support which is already falling

”Despite the holiday, "Israeli" aggression continued, with settlers uprooting olive groves near Ramallah and IOF raiding homes near al-Khalil. Attacks on Christians also rose, including assaults on 32 churches and 45 individuals.”

Meanwhile, in Northern Israel a Palestinian terrorist drove his car into a pedestrian, killing him, then stabbed a 19 year old to death on a kibbutz.

Perhaps Palestinian Santa had similar plans. You dont know. I dont know. But let's not pretend the possibility isnt there.
