Why are the virtue signallers calling for Israeli boycotts when Egypt is quite happy with expanding trade ties?

So all sorts of calls to boycott Israel but an Arab nation and previous enemy is quite happy to promote business.......

Because they’re not Egyptian???

SharonEllis · 13/12/2025 08:26

Whoosh!

SharonEllis · 13/12/2025 08:28

Because the Egyptian government lives in the real world of the MENA while virtue signallers luxuriate in a self righteous bubble, far far away.

Everexpanding · 13/12/2025 08:48

Because some people like to show their opposition to Ethnic cleansing??

Business is business.

The people of Gaza can only hope to one day have leaders that want economic success for them more than they want to destroy Israel.

And you'd think people who were pro-Palestinian would want the same thing!

MyCatStoleSausages · 13/12/2025 10:20

Why do some counties have sanctions on Russia when Israel don't, they are quite happy to trade with Russia? Business is business. Silly Western countries not knowing that, maybe one day they will want economic success too, heaven knows the UK needs it!

Thanks for raising the issue of boycotting again @mids2019
every small action helps Palestinians. Here is some information on a handy app which makes boycotting Israel easy

Because Egypt has a government subservient to the USA.

Because Egypt has a government subservient to the USA.

That's because along with Jordan, "Daddy" America pays them billions yearly in "Aid" as leverage aka encouragement to play nice with Israel.

Most of the normalization with Israel in the region has been via financial incentives. Also after the last 2 years the disparity between how the political class and ordinary citizens in the region view Israel has grown.

In fact within hours of the claim of Netanyahu going to Egypt, sources denied it .

Keep boycotting those Israeli goods guys, I'm sure you're making a big difference.

Meanwhile the deal to import natural gas from Israel to Egypt has been signed, a "purely commercial transaction" apparently.

Netanyahu announced he had approved the deal worth nearly $35 billion on Wednesday, calling it the largest of its kind in Israel’s history.

I support the rights of both Israeli Jews & Palestinians. I don't think Egyptian government is a good moral arbiter for many issues, including this one

Because Egypt has a government subservient to the USA.

In the list of countries receiving most aid from the U.S., Egypt has been number 2. Israel is number 1.

The Egyptian government also need to keep their population on side. Must be difficult juggling game. They are probably pro Israeli boycotts in general.
