Conflict in the Middle East

Laura Kuensberg PLO representative - insulting to UK

So there was a PLO representative on politics today who essentially ranted about the UK having to feel colonial guilt over Palestine and happy we finally recognised the state. At no point during the interview did the representative suggest the borders for any Palestinian state should be as current but only made references to historic wrongs which many will interpret as the formation of Israel. The guy (it's always a man) really did think that the recognition of a Palestinian state by the UK was an acknowledgment Israel shouldn't be formed.....a Hamas propaganda coup. (Thanks Keir).

At least Laura made a statement that the description of the war in Gaza as genocide by the representative was not the view of the BBC.

Israel will be made to pay for the damage they have inflicted and war crimes committed. Personally I think it’s likely Israel will struggle to find countries to trade with and Palestine will find many people willing and eager to offer a hand.

😀Israel is in a justified war.
They won’t need to pay reparations.

I don’t agree. Not only do I think they should pay for rebuilding, I think they will be held to account as we would expect. I would imagine most honourable people will welcome that on all sides.

Arab states led by Egypt have a plan for rebuilding Gaza. So does Trump!

Who knows who will rebuild it in the end, time will tell I guess.

Lots of rhetoric until you see the bill. I don't know if we have ever had ambitious plans to reconstruct a city state at scale. How long did Hisroshima take to rebuild? 10-20 years. I don't think Egypt has the cash and I don't think it will be a loan. The oil roach states will slowly back off any pledges ... that leaves the Trump plan really.

Do you agree with the Trump Plan @mids2019 ?

I disagree I think there is real appetite worldwide to lift the Palestine out of the hell that Israel has subjected it to and help them get back on their feet. When people work together for good much can be achieved.
As far as rebuilding cities, that’s not new. Many cities around the world have been rebuilt.

That all sounds really positive.

BBC Radio 4 did a good, clear resume this afternoon of the history of Britain’s involvement in Palestine.
The report on this history begins 5:30 minutes in:

The World this Weekend
Britain and Palestine

Good piece of journalism from the BBC, objective and accurate, it's well worth a listen. Thanks for the link.
