Why has MSM not reported on the condition of the Israeli hostages?

ConscientiousObserver · 02/08/2025 12:19

Pictures showing their terrible state are all over SM.

Why is there nothing in MSM about how starved these young men are who have been held hostage by demonic terrorists in unimaginable conditions for almost TWO YEARS?

This has absolutely disgusted me.

Headlines about Palestinian starvation in Gaza with the only visible evidence of that being sick children who’s medical condition would have contributed to their appearance, but real visible evidence of starvation among the Israeli hostages held by the Palestinians is totally ignored?

It is absurd to expect that a country should be expected to feed its attackers.

Israel left Gaza with a functioning infrastructure, with the wherewithal to manufacture its own energy and water. Gaza received more UN money per capita than any other area, yet Hamas chose to spend it on terrorism and keep Gaza dependent upon Israel, rather than develop an independent infrastructure. Hamas bit the hand that fed it.

I do not agree with Netanyahu's actions, nor his extremist government. Their blockade makes them Hamas's puppets.

Had to google that one. Tuvalu received the most UN aid per capita actually.

i do know that UN aid is spent directly by their agencies. We all saw the schools, universities and well equipped hospitals which now have largely been destroyed. It did not fund the “government” directly. Although some funds may have been diverted there is no evidence of widespread diversion. Hamas seems to have been largely funded by Qatar, Iran, non UN non profits and illegal activities.

Oh and nobody expects Israel to feed Gaza. This isn’t being discussed. They are expected to facilitate aid deliveries

Dilbertian · 03/08/2025 23:12

I cannot unfortunately find the source of my info. I believe that at a certain point Gaza received the highest amount per capita, though I accept that this may not have continued.

Israel was heavily criticised for shutting down the water and power it from Israel to Gaza

Dilbertian · 03/08/2025 23:15

(Sorry, somehow hit post.)

Israel was heavily criticised for shutting down the water and power it supplied to Gaza. Why, after 20y, was Gaza not self-sufficient in water and solar power? Why had Hamas prevented this from happening, despite all the investment?

99bottlesofkombucha · 03/08/2025 23:17

They are. Now your question is answered, here’s one for you- do you think the starving children in Gaza (those who haven’t yet been bombed while trying to get food) are holding them hostage?

That is entirely possible. There has been an awful lot of rebuilding that’s been done.

Yes they were. I’m sure you know yourself why Gaza rely on Israel for water and electricity. Cutting it off impacted normal everyday civilians, 50% who are children. What kind of a world would it be if we all thought it was fine? Do you think everyone in Gaza is “the enemy”

The water system isn’t fit for for purpose . On top of this Hamas are accused of using water pipes for weapons - hence a blockade in construction materials for this. Many previous conflicts had damaged the water system further. But ultimately even if the funding was there the construction was never possible because of the blockade.

Hamas are not the good guys. But ordinary civilians pay for price when these essentials of life are bombed or denied. Who is the enemy?

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 03/08/2025 23:56

@ConscientiousObserver , because they are Jews and there are a lot of antisemites (partially on mumsnet). 😡

Hamas.

But Netanyahu and his extremists are turning the 'ordinary civilians' into the next iteration of Hamas.

One thing that makes me really pessimistic about a two state solution is what happened with Gaza. Jewish people were forced to leave, by their own government (which I agreed with) and Gaza was left for the Palestinians, they elected a government, they had a functioning society and public services, they even issued passports. They effectively had a two state solution in Gaza (not the West Bank) and what did they do? Fired rockets and Israel and launched the October 7th attacks.
This is not to excuse Israeli actions in Gaza and I still think a two state solution is the only/best solution. But, I can't see that ending attacks on Israel.

Because Palestinians are stuck with a terrorist group as a government. It’s unfair to say that the two state solution has basically been tried (and failed) because a two state solution can only happen if the governments in both Palestine and Israel are moderate enough to want it to succeed.

Hamas was never going to facilitate a two state solution because of their awful beliefs and the right wing elements of the current Israel government’s seem intent on fuelling this hatred and prolonging this conflict. The more innocent Palestinians harmed or killed, the harder it’ll be to broker peace, even if Hamas are out of the picture.

The condition of the hostages is being reported more widely now:

He is a human skeleton, Gaza hostage's brother tells BBC

Hamas released the footage of Evyatar David, 24, on Saturday, drawing strong condemnation from Israel and Western leaders.

"He's a human skeleton. He was being starved to the point where he can be dead at any moment, and he suffers a great deal. He barely can't speak, he barely can move," David's brother Ilay said in an interview on Monday.

In the video, Evyatar says: "I haven't eaten for days... I barely got drinking water." He is seen digging what he says will be his own grave.

Hostages' families have urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prioritise their release as reports suggest he might be planning to expand the military campaign.

The footage of Evyatar was released after Palestinian Islamic Jihad published video of another hostage, Rom Braslavski, thin and crying.

Both men were abducted from the Nova music festival during the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023.

Ilay David said his father had barely recognised his son Evyatar's voice on the video and had not been able to sleep. He said his mother cried all day.

"Seeing those images of my brother as a human skeleton, we understood it's, it's, it's a new kind of cruelty," Mr David said. "It's the lowest you can get."

Yes a slow start but definitely more publicity. Footage of Evyatar David on a billboard in Times Square. Maybe the penny is finally dropping that these are the only emaciated people we have seen.

I just can’t bear it. His situation is like a horror film. Poor man.

It makes me question what else Hamas are doing.

It is so disturbing. The way they released the footage after countries fawned about recognising a state of palestine and that arsehole in Qatar saying that is the fruits of Oct 7th

Hamas are laughing at everyone.

Dilbertian · 04/08/2025 19:16

Hamas's release of this material right now, just after the pictures of starving children, is deeply cynical. They are trying to create the impression that Israel is responsible for Evyatar's starvation.

The Arab nations are trying to promote peace. The Arab nations have taken the unprecedented step of saying that Hamas must disband for peace. And Hamas are giving everyone a big Fuck Off.

Hamas care nothing for peace. Hamas care nothing for the suffering Palestinians. They are all martyr-fodder for Hamas.

But why are some falling for it, I seriously don't understand. All the civilians we see look absolutely fine, of course those poorly kids last week looked terrible but one had cp the other muscular problems they'd be poorly with or without a conflict sadly.

Hamas are isis under another name but isis didn't have Israel to blame to garner public support.

I hope the Arab nations carry on speaking up and hopefully Starmer, Macron etc will stfu about recognising a terrorist led state.

Have the Red Cross been to check on the hostages does anyone know?

They’re still there are aren’t they, reporting on Israeli war crimes?

They have not. Still.

Netanyahu asked that they take them medicine etc but they’ve still not.

The extent of their involvement remains as a taxi service.

I never thought I would see an emaciated Jew digging his own grave.

I’m just glad my grandparents aren’t around to see it. They saw it the last time around.

(I don’t love your post. I hate it, but there isn’t a hug button. Am Yisrael Chai)

Certainly the most emaciated adult we have seen.

Oh I didn’t see it on MSM but it got there.

Hamas have now released a video of one of the hostages, Evyatar David, being forced to dig his own grave. Clearly it is to try to humiliate Israel.

Hamas are obviously thankful for Western leaders for their support.
