Conflict in the Middle East

Why has MSM not reported on the condition of the Israeli hostages?

ConscientiousObserver · 02/08/2025 12:19

Pictures showing their terrible state are all over SM.

Why is there nothing in MSM about how starved these young men are who have been held hostage by demonic terrorists in unimaginable conditions for almost TWO YEARS?

This has absolutely disgusted me.

Headlines about Palestinian starvation in Gaza with the only visible evidence of that being sick children who’s medical condition would have contributed to their appearance, but real visible evidence of starvation among the Israeli hostages held by the Palestinians is totally ignored?

Well whatever state the people of Gaza are in is what I’d assume the hostages look like right now because no food or water getting in is bad for both of them.

Do you think Hamas are starving and have no access to food? Do you think if they had loads of food they’d feed the hostages well and good? Have you heard the stories of how they’re being treated?

Good to see the Jews Israel being blamed though. Again

You are wrong. Perhaps you should take a look at the footage.

Snorlaxo · 02/08/2025 17:44

Still can’t get over people protesting with signs like “Queers for Palestine” 🤔

I would laugh, if it wasn't so tragic. A few weeks ago there was a trans rally in my town. Some of them had Palestinian flags with "Trans for Palestine" on them.
I can't decide if it's genuine ignorance or not

Yes. This.

It’s always the ordinary citizens, usually on both sides, who suffer in conflicts.

So BBC News have finally reported on it.

If you don’t believe that BBC is biased against Israel this should convince you - not ONE of these two pictures shows the emancipated state Evyatar is in now. They’re both “before” pictures. So of course half wits are commenting how he doesn’t look that bad.

Can we please all use this screengrab to formally complain to the BBC

I looked for this post on Facebook because I noticed the laughing emoji. 234 out of 994 named people decided that laughing was an appropriate response to that story.

(for comparison I looked at some stories of Gazan children and there were also laughing emojis, but only 10-30 out of 2.5k emojis).

Why has MSM not reported on the condition of the Israeli hostages?

LadyCankleOfGrantham · 03/08/2025 10:33

In fact @spoonbillstretford in not sure sure why you say <checks notes> The humanitarian crisis in Gaza isn't front page news either if you’re not even going to check that statement is true.

Yesterday the Guardian and Independent both had front page news stories about it. Today the Sunday Times does. Why did you claim this wasn’t the case?

Not one front page story about the hostage digging his own grave.

Check your facts first please before posting nonsense

I was talking about the BBC today, as you were, and proving you entirely incorrect. Don't try and deflect now.

And if you cannot see why Israel, a legitimate state (not my view, I mean one that is globally acknowledged) which has always been something of an ally to the West in the Middle East, set up because of genocide and persecution of a particular ethnicity and religion, perpetuating genocide and persecution on its own citizens because they are a particular ethnicity and religion, is front page news over a terrorist group doing terrorism, then you don't have the first understanding of news values. Start by reading about "dog bites man v man bites dog".

Do you think all traditional media are anti-semitic, or just the ones you perceive as being a bit left leaning or wokey wokey?

Because I suggest you read up on the Daily Mail and antisemitism.

Do you think Hamas are starving? And do you think that they’d fatten him up given the chance?

Corinthiana · 03/08/2025 10:45

I've been horrified by the images and the stories coming out about the hostages. I read the testimony of Emily Damari and I'm glad that the DM published that picture of that poor man. We shouldn't lose sight of this issue - Hamas have not released the hostages and I don't know why there's not more of an outcry.

Sally690 · 03/08/2025 10:47

I saw the story on the main stories on the BBC website this morning. If you read the article it has the horrific picture of poor Evyatar in it. Sadly the hostages have never been a priority to the Israeli government.

It's sad though OP that you dismiss starving children in Gaza, why can't both be true and both be horrific? Why are there so many on both sides who are completely blind and in denial about what their own side is doing? It's just a tragedy all round.

spoonbillstretford · 03/08/2025 10:48

LadyCankleOfGrantham · 03/08/2025 10:37

If you mean BBC online - our front pages are all different based on cookies, algorithms etc. so my “front page” looks “ different to your “front page” which looks different to tigers.

But to say Gaza isn’t given high media attention is just plain lies. Especially with the BBC, who never seem to post about nothing else as Hamas - who are the PR and comms outfit speaking on behalf of Gaza - seem to have the BBC in their pockets.

Of course it is given high media attention and is on front pages, I am not denying that or "lying". On the BBC site today it is on the World page with the hostage story, that was my answer.

Out of interest, why do you think that is?

The BBC isn’t a newspaper? There is no “front page”. Their equivalent would be push notifications perhaps - of which there was one yesterday.

Im not deflecting. You were wrong. Just admit it.

There’s no genocide IMO. The conflict is the same as hundreds of other conflicts around the world. Regardless, this thread is about MSM reporting on hostages and you’ve come on to moan (wrongly) that Gaza isn’t “front page news”

I think the far right and far left have little in common but antisemitism is one thing. The Guardian have woeful underreporting of hostages for example and little twats like Owen Jones complaining when people speak out against antisemitism.

Seeing as I’ve answered your question , maybe you can answer mine - why do you think the hostage isn’t front page news? Why do you think BBC didn’t use a current image to accompany a headline about the hostage being emaciated?

Yes I notice this all the time. Any posts about Jewish people, Israel, even if unrelated to the conflict..the comments section is absolutely full of the most vile comments from pro Palestinians. Conversely when there are posts on Gaza, I rarely, almost never see such disgusting comments from those who are pro Israel.

Im confused - do you expect Gaza to ALWAYS be the top story on BBC on everyone’s feed.

Im really not convinced you meant BBC when you said “it’s never on the front pages”. No idea why you won’t just admit you’re wrong.

They probably couldn’t point out the region on a map. They also chant from the river to the sea blah blah. They have no idea what it means. Pathetic. Yes, and tragic. They have no idea about the Hamas charter. They’re so ignorant it hurts.

See I think they do know what from the river to the sea means and they do know Hamas’s charter. I’m not saying ALL pro-Palestinians are antisemitic…but I’ve never met one yet who, if you scratch the surface just the tiniest bit, doesn’t at least peddle ancient hateful tropes about Jews - the same that are churned out every 100 years or so in a bid to exile, harm and kill Jews.

So...according to you it's people's individual algorithims that determine what's on the front page.

Isn't all your gammony anger over what's on the front page in the last half hour rather pointless?

Talk about being hoist by your own petard.

So in the last half hour you have lied about a photo in a BBC article and bit yourself on the arse with your own argument.

Fucking hilarious. 🤪

There’s no front page of the BBC News website.

You have a landing page on your personal device and what is on that landing page is different to the next person. Not just the BBC - any given online news page. It feeds you what it thinks you want to read. Why do you think you’re asked to accept cookies on websites?

I find it hilarious that you deny this though 🤣 a quick google will tell you this is the case.

Talk about being hoist by your own petard

😂😂😂 seriously mate - you said Gaza is never “front page news”, then claimed you meant “the BBC”. Just admit you didn’t mean that and you were wrong.

Where did I lie?!

Seriously, it’s just easier to admit you were wrong rather than embarrass yourself like this.

What is “gammony anger”?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/08/2025 11:06

The images of Evyatar David are horrific and heartbreaking, but it simply isn't true to say that the mainstream media aren't showing them. I've seen them on both the BBC and Sky and in multiple newspapers. It is possible that they appeared slightly later on MSM than on social media because the media outlets were all reporting that they had the family's consent to broadcast the images, and I guess that might have taken some time.

Seeing that poor young man's emaciated body is truly distressing, but the reality in Gaza right now is that huge swathes of the population are starving because Israel has not allowed aid to get in. It is hardly surprising that this includes the Israeli hostages who are still being held by Hamas.

It is entirely possible to feel compassion for both the hostages and for the people of Gaza, all of whom are facing the most unimaginable suffering right now. And yes, of course, Hamas must be held accountable for its abhorrent actions on October 7th and for their ongoing refusal to release those poor, innocent hostages. But at the same time, Israel must be held accountable for its own part in blocking aid to Gaza, and sadly for the impact that this policy will have on harming its own citizens who are still in captivity.

The suffering of innocent Israelis and innocent Palestinians will only stop when both Hamas and the Israeli government are properly held to account for their barbaric actions.

I think using it is one of those verbal cues that tell you exactly who you're dealing with.

It's a racist trope based on pink skin, put it in the same box as coconut used against brown skin.

Hamas is starving the hostages. You can rest assured if they wanted to feed the hostages, they could. It's not because they don't have any food to give them
