A bit of peace in the middle East but Iran still may be able to reinvigorate its nuclear program.

Can Trump be confident that the Iranians have been put back in the box?

I don't know a single person who was worried before Israel and the US bombed them and don't know a single person that is worried now. Iran haven't done anything in their 30years of being 3 years away from having nuclear weapons. If they were as desperate to have nukes as Trump and Netanyahu want us to believe they would have them by now.

What exactly were they doing with hyper enriched uranium though. Scary stuff.

Im not a betting woman but if I was, I’d wager that Israel’s been scuppering their programme in increments over the last 30 years. The odd death of an atomic scientist here, an occasional cyber attack there, etc. However, time ran short and decisive action was taken. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

They can have enriched uranium but that’s very different from putting it in a war head capable at firing at anyone.

“Tulsi Gabbard left no doubt when she testified to Congress about Iran's nuclear program earlier this year.
The country was not building a nuclear weapon, the national intelligence director told lawmakers, and its supreme leader had not reauthorized the dormant program even though it had enriched uranium to higher levels.”
This was the same intelligence under Biden.

I guess this is why some people were advocating continuing diplomacy and not to bomb Iran. Wasn’t there a thread on this?

I guess Iran has even more reason to be covert about it’s operations now 🫣

It seems a bit odd- there was so much planning and thought given by Israel to weakening Iran but there was no thought given to the day after- only hope of regime change which would have plunged the region into chaos. But Trump has said no to further war mongering in the most colourful language.

A bit like the day after in Gaza- no planning in place to give to a path vaguely acceptable to the Palestinians and a longer term semblance of peace in the area.

Trump is not interested in listening to US experts on Iran’s nuclear program

The US president is more willing to listen to Israel than his predecessors were and is also deeply suspicious of the CIA

No, I think Trump is a lunatic, as is the other leaders of Israel and Iran.

What did Trump say?
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.”
“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, the biggest load that we’ve seen,” he said, in the strongest-worded public rebuke of Israel of any US president in history. On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump issued a blunt instruction, writing: “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”

😳

I hear the IDF airmen hit a token radar and came back home. Glad to see Trump finally reign Israel in. He also seems to be thinking about proportionality of Israeli aggression.

you came argue with Trump's decisiveness then he wants to be. Nobel peace prize for preventing further escalation?

I suspect they’re rather closer to dirty bombs than actual nuclear bombs.

With uranium enriched to 60% then they are already at the dirty bomb stage.

MushMonster · 25/06/2025 07:40

I, of course, really do not know why Iran has high enriched uranium. Only the Intelligence guys know, with a bit of luck. And the Iranians, at least some of them.

But at the beginning of the conflict, the news did say, TV, that Iran makes quite a bit of Mo99, which is used for medical purposes. Molybdenum99 production is, indeed, more efficient with 60% or plus enriched uranium.

Nuclear reactors can work with less than 5% enrichment, rather happily, but they are also more efficient with highly enriched uranium and you can use 60%.

Those are the peaceful uses of the materials.
The bad ones, we all know.

I hope so.

It wasn't weapons grade.

Trump has no control over Israel, if anything Israeli influence in the US is stronger. His only control over Iran is the threat of (or actual) attack. We don't know how much damage was done to the Iranian nuclear capability, even though Trump says it was the goodliest bombings ever! He's been about as successful in solving the war in Israel/Gaza as he has been in Russia/Ukraine and I don't expect Israel/Iran to be any more successful, lots of bragging about how great he is, but not much substance. What next in all of these wars?
