Conflict in the Middle East

Can someone please explain the religious nutterism (from all sides) in the Iran/Israel/USA war?

I've heard all sides (well, some people on all sides) are partly driven by religious beliefs and prophecy.

I just read that the destruction of Israel isn’t a core belief for twelvers. Maybe it’s like a splinter thing thats mainly present in the version the ayatollahs preach.

I've heard all three of these religions have splinter groups that believe the death of some people or other and the destruction of their land/buildings will bring the coming of their Messiah. Problem is, these groups may be small but they seem to have disproportionate political power.
And to the people offended by me describing these beliefs as religious nutterism, what would you call them? Would you give these beliefs some sort of respect?

I think a lot of westerns who are not religious themselves just don’t understand that a lot of people out there actually BELIEVE believe. They always see everything through an imperialism or colonialism lens and can’t fathom that for some people scripture and religion is very real

I agree with this. I think people in western democracies, including political leaders, don't really understand that other people have very different world views and motivations. Even with Putin, Europe thought they could bring him in fold with trade dependencies, not understanding that as a dictator ( effectively) he had different motivations. Those ruling Iran are religious leaders before political ones. Their beliefs are 100% real to them. A country where the leaders' prize martyrdom and the afterlife more than this life, is not a country you want to have nuclear weapons. Especially when they believe in destroying Israel. A nuclear war will be a disaster for all of us, not just those in the middle east.
