Thousands of Israelis join violent, racist march through Jerusalem’s Muslim quarter

Looks to me like the Guardian and others are now trying to backtrack on their support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza …

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/26/thousands-join-israeli-flag-march-through-muslim-quarter-of-old-city-in-jerusalem

Thousands of Israelis have joined a state-funded march through the Muslim quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem, where large groups chanted racist slogans including “Gaza is ours”, “death to the Arabs” and “may their villages burn”.

From before midday on Monday small groups of young Israeli men attacked and harassed shopkeepers and passersby inside the city, spitting at women in hijabs, stealing from cafes, ransacking a bookshop and entering at least one home by force.

There was a riot protest in Bern, Switzerland at the weekend. Only stopped by police one street from the synagogue. Windows were broken, shops robbed, police attacked.

MissyB1 · 27/05/2025 07:02

Yes OP I saw it on channel 4 news, members of the far right Israeli Government supporting it too. That behaviour is very normal in Israel I suspect because their Government encourages it. It would be like a far right Government getting in here and encouraging the Southport mob in burning hotels etc..

Did the actual content of this thread offend you so much that you had to change the topic entirely? Interesting.

It’s what they do. Try and distract people’s attention away from what Israel is doing so they can try and hide the reality of what is going on.

Yes, most of us can see how this conflict has been globalised, I bet the people in Myanmar/Sudan/Syria/Yemen wish they had harnessed the power of the internet, people might care about them too. They might even get a section on Mumsnet...oh, Sudan/Syria & Yemen do.

claretsage · 27/05/2025 08:16

This stuff needs to be shown more widely here. People need to be aware of what they’re supporting.

Odras · 27/05/2025 08:42

“Despite the history of violence at the march there was a relatively light police presence inside the Old City, and they did little to protect many of the Palestinians targeted with violence.

Activists from the group Standing Together, who stood as human shields in front of attackers protected only by purple gilets identifying them as members were often the only barrier preventing the violence escalating”

Look at this group. There are always good people in the darkness. They are very brave.

As an aside I wasn’t aware that the guardian supported Genocide.

sualipa · 27/05/2025 09:00

Israeli fascist racial supremacists. In government and in power.

I'd like to think most of us hope the 'good people in the darkness' win.
We like to think that we are good people and they're on the same side, which in a very tautological sense is what makes us think they're good people.

Anything to deflect from the topic at hand, as if people can't see right through it.

@Eatcakeplease was this reply 'on topic' enough for the thread police, the dialogue had moved on to solutions rather than diatribes.

I think they are good people because they are protecting other people from harm. That’s a good thing to do. It’s not about winning, it’s about doing the right thing.

Please show me ANY Israeli /Jewish tribute thread in this section where a Pro Palestinian does not stick their oar in.

Israelis and their partners can't even get shot to death by Leftist Pro Palestinian supporter in the US without the thread being derailed into what Israel is "doing wrong".

You have no moral superiority around here.

The Jewish Mumsnetters section was directly formed as a result of the constant dehumanisation of Israeli/Jewish pain and suffering in this section of Mumsnet. And by people who think that being Pro Palestinian gives them some kind of sanctification to act the c*nt.

Muslims and their allies worldwide have been marching, ripping posters of the kidnapped, beating , trying to drag off of planes in backwards ex Russian Muslim majority lands Jewish people or people thought to be so since 10/5.

Synagogues, "Jewish areas", Jewish schools, shit, even "stereotypical"Jewish phenotypes have to be on high alert in fucking LONDON due to loose cannon Muslims and Pro Palestinians with so little going on for themselves, they are prepared to lose it.

I very much remember the visceral rage and spite with which three hijabi Somalian Brits tore down posters of the kidnapped at the beginning of the war. This was in a London UK that their families sought and gained asylum from because Somalia is a failed state par excellence. And these women in their complete ingratitude and entitlement chose to bring their country's religious anti Semitism here to a community which theirs can never hope to compete with in terms of assimilation, and cultural contribution covering unlimited spheres.

The anti Jew actions worldwide by members of the public do and will far outweigh Jews acting a way.

You know that, I know that.
That it rattles you that somebody whatabouted "in favour" of Israel/Jews is a you problem, considering that nothing is off limits for intrusion and in far less tactful terms from pro Palestinian posters in this section of Mumsnet.

I think any Israelis who stand up to protect Palestinians or protest are actually really brave. I saw a protest involving some Hassidic Jews in Jerusalem and I was shocked at the level of violence from the police towards peaceful protestors.

arcticpandas · 27/05/2025 12:40

In western countries it's the pro-Palestine movements that are violent.

Tbh I can understand all of them. If someone killed my family because they were jewish/arab I would probably be filled with hate as well. We can be all calm and rational about it when talking about this forever conflict because we don't have family members killed by either side. I wonder if Russia/Ukraine will be a forever conflict as well. Don't see any solution on the horizon there either. And during the meantime children are dying. It's awful.

yes It’s the ultimate act of peaceful solidarity. And obviously there they are putting themselves at risk

What is your issue? Are you, in a roundabout way, saying you condone and agree with the racist march through the Muslim quarter? Because you have certainly not condemned it. In fact you have doubled down on it with your own Muslim hate rhetoric. I have no time for people who direct hate at others that they rightly condemn when it happens to their own community.

No, it’s completely unnecessary to come onto a thread with the title and subject in full view and immediately go into whataboutery without engaging in the discussion at all.

I don’t equate the atrocities carried out by the IDF however you seem to be cherry picking select things and blaming it on all Muslims.

Its disgusting.

One can only assume that those not actively condemning the acts carried out by the IDF are in support of said actions.

Irrelevant to what happened in Jerusalem. Though we should all note that the Israeli police did NOTHING to prevent the settlers/far right from doing this.

That the truth though, most of the pro Israeli mumsnetters are staunch IDF supporters and frequently make statements of support. They remain in denial of the atrocities being carried and believe everything is justifiable.
