Conflict in the Middle East

RAF surveillance planes regularly fly to Gaza and supply Israel with the intelligence gained.

Over 500 surveillance missions have been flown by the RAF from Akrotiri since Oct 2023, yet not a whisper of it in MSM. It might be something to do with the D notice sent out to UK media organisations that suppresses reporting the activity of UK forces in Gaza. Also there is a block on questions about this being raised by MPs, as Kenny MacAskill, MP for East Lothian found out.

Both the conservative and labour governments have said that these flights were to help find the hostages.

@CrunchyKnees
Yep, one BBC report Dec 2023, and one more 10 months later. Not much elsewhere. Were you aware crunchy that these flights were taking place?

Is there an issue with the UK assisting in locating the hostages, one of which was a UK citizen, and another the husband of UK citizens murdered by Hamas on Oct 7th?

12 British citizens were murdered on Oct 7th.

I remember reading an article about it ages ago, yes, which is why I responded to your OP.

There was more than one report, I just linked to the BBC ones.

Not sure what point you’re making?

You were obviously incorrect in there not being ‘a whisper of it in MSM’.

mouthpipette · 05/04/2025 18:59

@CrunchyKnees Not sure what point you’re making?

A few actually, and thanks for your interest, so I'll tell you what they are;
Point 1) There has been hardly any coverage of this fact and I surmise most people were unaware of this UK involvement.

Point 2) Why are our politicians being discouraged from asking questions?

Point 3) Not raised in my original post, but you can have my thoughts anyway, That I don't want the UK to in any way be complicit in the actions of Israel.

Also, the UK/Israeli hostage was released in January, so why are they still flying?
And for the record, I don't believe that the intelligence shared has just been about hostages.

You are right, I wasn't aware they were still flying either. We must hold our government to account, we certainly don't want to be complicit in their dirty war crimes.

EasterIssland · 05/04/2025 20:24

I knew they were. Not because of government or news but because several accounts in twitter have been posting images from FR24 where you could see British airplanes assisting in the area.

I have no issue with our government assisting in a war where UK citizens have been killed and held hostage.

Why would any UK citizen have an issue with that?

How much coverage of this do you think there should have been btw?

Reports in the MSM not enough?

Do you think the MSM should have repeatedly published the same news just in case you missed it?

@CrunchyKnees I have no issue with our government assisting in a war where UK citizens have been killed and held hostage.

Even when that war is wrong ?

Why would any UK citizen have an issue with that?
Any UK citizen who had an ounce of humanity would realise that the war is wrong, and so would have an "issue" with it.

And anyway, it's no longer a war ( if it ever was) it's now state terrorism.

A British spy plane was flying over Gaza when a British aid worker was murdered by the IDF. The government however are refusing to disclose the footage. Why?

I have an issue with our government assisting in a war where UK citizens have killed in Gaza. (Tbh I’ve an issue where uk (or my own country) assists in the killing of innocent civilians regardless of their nationality)

The UK are military allies of Israel. So this is no surprise is it? Well I can see it is to the OP, but not to anyone in the military or interested in defence relations. The UK is on the side of Israel. Or were people not aware of that.

I don’t think this war is anymore ‘wrong’ than any other war.

Perhaps you could explain why you do?

What is wrong is that the terrorists in Gaza are openly using Palestinian civilians, civilian buildings and medical facilities including ambulances as terrorist facilities/shields, and have ensured as many civilians die as possible for their lost cause.

What is also wrong is that people purporting to support and care about Palestinian civilians don’t care that they are doing this, certainly not enough to march or protest about it anyway.

I have tonnes of humanity btw.

Certainly more than people pretending to care about the plight of Palestinians as an excuse to freely hate Jews/Israel and spread anti semitic propaganda and blood libels.

The UK government has said they will provide intelligence to the ICC if requested which you would assume includes footage.

Let’s hope it’s requested.

Who are you expecting the government to disclose the footage to?

Social media?

To the family of the murdered British aid worker who have requested an independent enquiry from the British government.

Yes the UK's government stance is certainly pro-Israel. Trade in Pharma, IT, defence and other commodities makes it economic sense for us to grease along with them.
I just don't think it's right, and there might be one or two others who also don't think it's right.

Rather than facilitating Israel's horrendous acts, we should be acting to stop them.

No,

Surveillance against a terrorist organization though isn't a bad thing

Of course it isn't.
But that particular surveillance is also enabling and helping Israel in their war in Gaza. A war that is wrong, and as such, should not be facilitated by the UK.
