This has been spoken in other threads but I think it deserves its own thread

why oh why when ICC has asked them to leave occupied territories in Palestine does Israel’s government think it’s a good idea to expand in other countries?

Israel to expand Golan Heights settlements after fall of Assad

Israel says the move is necessary following the takeover of neighbouring Syria by an Islamist-led rebel alliance.

Just seen this on the news- wtf?! Do these fuckers think they're untouchable? I don't get why one of the superpowers doesn't push them back. Hard. They're violating all humanitarian laws and UN laws.

Liv999 · 15/12/2024 22:17

Because they're a rogue state funded and backed by the US and they couldn't give a flying you know what about International Law , they have completely lost the run of themselves

username299 · 15/12/2024 22:34

They don't care about the law.

mollyfolk · 15/12/2024 22:50

It seems pretty bonkers.

It's bond to cause trouble. Don't they have enough problems? There is zero justification for expanding these settlements, they shouldn't exist in the first place.

I'm not surprised at all. This is very typical of Israel, unfortunately.

What AIPAC does is legal, but the outcome is an extremely pro-Israel congress in USA.

Why stop at just Syria, Netanyahu's dream crazy fantasy is to redraw the Maps of the whole region, come what may. And sadly he's not alone in that dream.

Al Jolani has "allowed" Israel to occupy an area 4 times the size of Gaza for the first time in 50 years.

This writer at the Times of Israel opines that Sykes Picot got it wrong in 1916, so it would be rude of Israel not to "get it right".
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/post-assad-think-small/

Now is the time to erase the colonial boundaries Sykes and Picot drew that defined the region for a century.

Oh the irony... Hard to listen while thinking they must be thinking we're all idiots but we are not the target audience of this article of course.

OchaLove · 16/12/2024 00:29

I think Israel wants small tribal formations instead of decent countries that might challenge them. Of course, not hard to see Iran is the only obstacle to achieve this.

In another post, when I mentioned Oded-Yinon plan someone brushed it off as just a theory. We're seeing it happening in real time.

How did a very small group of Jewish people 'capture' both US parties? What do you mean by Epstein Island blackmail?

Abandonedbypals · 16/12/2024 08:12

Because the longer Israel is at war, the longer Netanyahu stays in power. His corruption trial, the beginnings of which started in 2016, has just started again. Pre-Oct 7, he couldn't get or keep enough of a majority to avoid an election every two minutes. Now he's fully in bed with a bunch of supremacists (and no, not all Israelis are racist nut jobs) who will support him and keep him in power through this kind of action.

I'm curious too. For Epstein cade, you can google.

So you have no idea how its done, but you know it has been? Sounds like you're just tapping in to a historic prejudice & slur then. As for Epstein I know who he was. I want you to tell me how he has shaped and continues to shape (from the grave) US foreign policy towards Israel.

It's blatant violations and making a total mockery of international law time and time again. There seems to be no limits that Israel will not cross, no red lines.

Dulra · 16/12/2024 08:55

No surprises here. Everything people have been predicting and shut down as being anti-Semitic are just coming to pass. Annexing land is not self defence in fact it is the complete opposite

Israel's government has approved a plan to encourage the expansion of settlements in the occupied Golan Heights.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the move was necessary because a "new front" had opened up on Israel's border with Syria after the fall of the Assad regime to an Islamist-led rebel alliance.

The problem is no one is touching them or stopping them.

From TG

Germany has urged Israel to “abandon” a plan to double the population living in the occupied and annexed Golan Heights at the south-western edge of Syria.
Foreign ministry spokesperson, Christian Wagner, said on Monday :
It is perfectly clear under international law that this area controlled by Israel belongs to Syria and that Israel is therefore an occupying power.
Wagner added that Berlin therefore called on its ally Israel “to abandon this plan” which was announced on Sunday by the Israeli government.
He added:
It is absolutely crucial now, in this phase of political upheaval in Syria, that all actors in the region take into account the territorial integrity of Syria and do not call it into question.
Speaking at a regular press conference, he added that the situation is “complex” and that Israel had an interest to ensure that the Assad regime’s weapons “do not fall into the wrong hands”.
But he stressed that Germany was “now calling on all actors in the region to exercise restraint” and that war-ravaged “Syria has been a plaything of foreign powers for far too long”.

“Germany has urged Israel to “abandon” a plan to double the population living in the occupied and annexed Golan Heights at the south-western edge of Syria.“
This is a very provocative plan by Israel and it doesn’t look as if the safety and protection of their civilians ( never mind Syrians) is at the heart of the plan .
Netanayu is a threat to the stability of the region.

But I do agree that “Israel had an interest to ensure that the Assad regime’s weapons “do not fall into the wrong hands”

That’s a fair and diplomatic response from Germany

Why do they always have to shoot? Were these protestors armed? Are they not entitled to protest against an invading army?

I guess, when you are given carte blanche to do whatever you want, you loose all sense of morality. In future, the IDF will be known as the most immoral army in the world.
