Are you in anyway surprised that the Israeli branch reject that Israel is carrying out a genocide? They aren't exactly going to be impartial are they?

So you agree with them that they concede: raise suspicions of widespread and serious violations of international law and crimes against humanity,”

The very reason for Netanyahu's arrest warrant from the ICC.

We all know that it's a Genocide, we all know ethnic cleansing is happening, but there will always be those who deny it.

Sorry, I don't understand. If the Israeli branch of AI csn't be impartial why would you expect any other branch of AI be considered impartial? Does AI not have universal standards & established methodologies when it comes to Human Rights & their investigations? Or are we holding Israel to a different standard?

I'm not on the ground, nor am I a lawyer. Of course I take seriously their evidence and expertise. But I thought you said they can't be impartial? So I assume you don't?

Oh give over, if the amnesty branch in Beirut said they don't believe hezbollah is indiscriminately firing at Israel and only at IDF targets I would think they have a reason to be impartial if the main headquarters said otherwise.

headstone · 05/12/2024 13:25

Presumably there is always a risk of AI being banned in Israel, so it was probably wise for the Israeli branch to say this.

The main report by Amnesty covers that and genocide, so yes I do. But you carry on believing what you want.

This too, look at the flak haaretz got for calling out Israeli war crimes.

Very interesting. As I've said elsewhere Amnesty is not the organisation it was. I have a friend who is a human rights defender. She left AI quite a few years ago because she felt it was losing its way. The role of human rights defenders has always been to hold the countries they are IN to account. Not to be biased i favour of those countries' regimes. She put herself in pretty grave danger from time to time because of it. Its literally the point of them. If you're openly saying AI doesnt have universal standards then noone should take tbe report seriously at all.

That is not how AI works. If it was the case they would say so. The takes on this conflict never cease to amaze me.

anniegun · 05/12/2024 13:34

Every right thinking person knows what Israel is doing. It is shameful how much cover the US government gives them. It also creates a narrative that Western nations are happy to support killing civilians when it suits them so they are no better than Russia etc

Thanks

"Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now," Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International's secretary general, said in the report.
