Conflict in the Middle East
MangeMonCochonnet · 29/09/2024 14:35

Thanks for this link Easter, v poignant read.

Do you have any opinion about the article OP?

SunnyZebra · 29/09/2024 15:41

the article captures mine and my family’s experiences over the last year: the antisemitism I’ve witnessed at work, the discussions I’ve had to have with my daughter’s headteacher about the antisemitic posts my daughter’s peers were liking and sharing on social media, the friendships we’ve stepped back from, and for my husband that includes a 30year friendship.

@EasterIssland
And the same thing is happening in the US too - seems to be causing equivocation in US politics by Harris.
Another article - but from the US, which also suggests a generational element.

Must be tough navigating this for families and communities also troubled by antisemitism.

That's really sad.

My best wishes that things improve and that anti semitism is tackled wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head.

Tralalaka · 29/09/2024 18:08

This is incredibly accurate. In 50 years I’ve never felt anti Semitism. Now I never mention I’m Jewish. The anti Jewish sentiment is rife, you only have to see it on MN, it’s like people feel justified to say out loud what we always suspected they thought.

Thank you for your kind words.
The last year has fundamentally changed how my husband and I feel about the UK and we’ve had serious conversations about whether moving to Israel would be the best option for us as a family in the longer term. We’re waiting for the situation in ME to calm down before we make a decision. I never thought I’d be in my 50s considering selling everything and moving to a country where I don’t speak the language to start again but I don’t want my children to spend the rest of their lives in a country where they have to hide being Jewish, which is what the UK is fast becoming.

So so sorry this has been your experience. Love to you & your family.

It’s terrifying to see so much anti-Jewish/anti-Israel sentiment and populist authoritarian leaders flourish across Europe and UK.

I thought it couldn’t happen again but at the same time I also always knew it would.

Hopefully enough of us stand up and call it put.

That's awful I'm so sorry. 🥹

I don't know what the solution is. The latest trend seems to be anti-Jewish social media produced by mostly thick people who've never read a history book in their life.

I know that doesn't help you right now but there are many of us out there who recognise this weird modern phenomenon and have got your back.

Pm me if you need to.

@MangeMonCochonnet thank you for these words. It really does honestly make such a big difference to hear words of support from people and to be believed

Gosh, that hit hard. I am so sorry you've been made to feel this way. Please take comfort in the fact that honestly, the vast majority of the population do not feel that way. Unfortunately, those with the loudest voices are drowning out everyone else's voices, but they do not speak for everyone. There is no place for anti semitism in the UK - our government needs to wake up and start stamping down hard on this. No one should be living in fear like this, it literally sickens me.
