Global Imams Council condemns Hamas and the Iranian regime

Global Imams Council condemns Hamas:

We hold Hamas directly responsible for the deaths and suffering of all innocent lives lost since October 7, as their actions have not only brought death and destruction upon the region but have also led to immense suffering for the Palestinian people. Hamas’s reckless and inhumane tactics, using civilians as shields and exploiting their plight, have only escalated the cycle of violence and undermined the cause of justice and peace.

Moreover, we recognize that the regime in Iran shares equal responsibility for these tragedies, as its continued support and endorsement of Hamas’s actions perpetuate violence and instability in the region. (…)

We call upon the international community, all religious leaders, and people of conscience to unite against these acts of terror and to work tirelessly towards a future where peace, justice, and respect for all human life are the foundations of our shared existence.

👏👏👏

They also condemned Iran's attack earlier in the year. https://www.memri.org/reports/global-imams-council-issues-statement-condemning-irans-attack-israel

This was well said. May it cause pause for reflection from as many people as possible.

@pigletinthewoods This statement was already posted on another thread and people responded there at the time. I am sorry but I don’t remember which one.

SharonEllis · 09/09/2024 07:08

Not that many people responded at the time as the Imam's declaration went against the general mood of the thread which is not to hold Hamas responsible for anything. Its good to have it here so people don't have to read the terrifying posts on the other threads.

Thanks for posting @pigletinthewoods

Do we think the BBC are going to report it? 🤔

As an aside, there are no statements condemning the treatment of women in Afghanistan or Iran. The Council seems to be a bunch of self appointed blokes.

Why would they? If you aren't religious (maybe even if you are I don't know how religion works) then their opinion holds about as much weight as the opinion of a random mumsnet poster.

The UN, the ICC, ICJ, charities who actually have people on the left ground there, actual experts in International law and human rights, these are all being ignored so I'm not sure why anyone would think that the opinion of these men would carry any weight.

It's a bit odd that some of the same posters who ignore legal rulings like the ICJs for instance suddenly listen to the Global Imans Council. The power of religion in their lives perhaps?

Exactly, it won't be reported by any reputable news sites as the outfit appears to be connected to the dubious character Mohammad Tawhidi aka the self styled Imam of peace.

If you want to know the credibility and authority of a 'global council', look at the people in senior positions - their qualifications, affiliations and work.
