If this is an Israeli strike do you think this could lead to further escalation?

Not unusual. And how did that flag get there? Almost as if they were ready and waiting to use it.....

Which flag ?

The 12 footer draped over the ruins. I don't have a 12 foot long union jack tucked into my back pocket to drape over any ruins after a building comes down. It wouldn't be the first thing I thought of, and even if I did think Heck! This building needs a flag draped over it! there wouldn't be one handy

goingtohellinahandcart · 01/04/2024 19:35

It was a consulate, surely it wouldn't be unusual for there to be a flag there, looks like it could be flagpole that was hanging on the building that was brought down in what ever caused the explosion

But it’s a consulate ? Consulates normally have flags from those countries they represent?

So it was taken out of the consulate before the consulate was brought down, so it was ready to use afterwards? Cos it wasn't taken out after the eventuality

It's not unusual to bomb a consulate and kill people in the building? Really?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/04/2024 19:41

This is further escalation @goingtohellinahandcart.Sad

I’m not sure to be honest what you mean

therw is an Iranian flag in the ruins of the video I’ve posted. Israel has brought down a consulate of Iran.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 01/04/2024 19:50

What union Jack flag?

If you zoom in on the image on the BBC news app it is a flag attached to a flagpole that has been pushed forward. So I would hypothesise that it was a flag on a flagpole hanging outside the embassy and fell forward due to the pressure of the blast.
I'm curious though what of it? Why were you so upset by it?

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/04/2024 19:56

The desperation of trying to claim that the Iranian embassy having an Iranian flag on a flag pole is suspicious is almost comical. Some people really are way down the rabbit hole.

BelleHathor · 01/04/2024 20:14

At this point give Netanyahu and the War Hawks in Washington what they desire, International law is finished, consulates are protected.

Let the chips fall where they will.

EasterIssland · 01/04/2024 20:19

If Iran responds … will USA be willing to enter a war as well with Iran? 🤔

Believe me some idiot in his cabinet would have war gamed this, and will recommend America assisting Israel, A war with Iran is the war hawks desire, it has been since Bush Junior's time. They managed destroy Iraq, Syria, Libya and weaken most of the other countries in the region but somehow Iran has eluded them.

Forget about American bodies coming back in coffins draped in American flags 7 months out from an election, the price is worth it. War is good business after all, and we can't possibly allow the "new axis of Evil" Iran, China and Russia to be formed.

It's why they are allowing Israel to run wild. So far the region has been fairly calm in responding to these provocations, but Netanyahu won't stop and Benny Gantz wants to attack Lebanon. So give it to them.

Do you think wouldn’t forgive Biden to have sent them to a war to protect another country and not the states when it’s election Time? I’d think trump would win easily if that happened

Biden will never be forgiven, ordinary American people are seeing the bodies and destruction, they mostly don't support this and are horrified.

What Gaza has shown them though is that Red or Blue, Democrat or Republican doesn't matter, their politician's will serve the Donor Class. So if the donor class says support Israel Biden will do that. They'll try and spin it as being in America's interests.

Trump's no better with his " beach houses" in Gaza son in law, however there is a growing movement on the right for no more "interventions" for anyone they saw how many "American First" influencers pivot quickly from no money for Ukraine to Fund Israel now and are calling out their hypocrisy.

Belle you are absolutely right. Lindsay Graham must be jumping for joy. Lots of other people will be rubbing their hands with glee at the money to be made.

The Israeli government have been ramping up airstrikes on Lebanon and Syria for weeks, it's deliberate provocation.

I sincerely hope the UK government do not think of joining the madness.

As a side note Russia and China have done a deal with the Houthis to make sure their cargo ships can get through the Bab El Mandeb. Two permanent members of the UNSC with vetos. We have killed international law with the kind of arrogance which suggests our governments think we will never need it.

I agree, let the chips fall where they may and just hope our own governments stupidity doesn't come back and bite us whilst they are protected in secure bunkers.

HeidiInTheBigCity · 01/04/2024 21:56

FFS, I mean, seriously!

Personally, I am absolutely NOT keen on living through WW III in "defense" of - supposedly - some racist, fascist, apartheid-state of a colonial enterprise, and - in actual reality - its criminal, deeply unpopular even domestically prime minister who will do anything to stay in power and out of prison!

If fucking Bibi actually manages to gaslight everyone else into going along with this, he needs taking out already - for the sake of all of us [yes, Israelis and Palestinians definitely included, but not only them!]

Is the Nawalny spot still free and available?

Hard to believe we fought the second world war to defeat fascists and could end up fighting a third world war to defend them.

Absolutely hoping that Sunak doesn't follow the Blair path and follow America blindly in, luckily we are extremely short on operative assets right now.

On Russia 2 of their warships entered the Red Sea on the 28th of March following the deal. All the pieces are being moved.

I can't stand Lindsay "Ukraine must mobilise under 25s" but his donors will be happy.
