There is so much horror going on in Gaza sometimes it is important to remember the details. This article is correct in this
"Mothers giving birth with no medical help, babies without milk, one toilet between 500 people – but none of it evokes empathy"

Mothers giving birth with no medical help, babies without milk, one toilet between 500 people – but none of it evokes empathy, writes Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

It is beyond belief what is being allowed to happen. Like most posters here I have been pregnant. It was incredibly difficult both times. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to be pregnant and give birth under the conditions Palestinian women are currently being subjected to by Israel. I had to have an emcs with my first and had an elective with my second. Just the thought of going through that without anaesthetic is horrifying.

Auvergne63 · 15/02/2024 21:03

I cannot comprehend how frightened these women must be. I just can't.

Silence1 · 15/02/2024 21:10

It's very distressing. Poor women. There's another article in The WP.

I read it and then I read the article shared on another post about the Israeli Major stressed as he can't spend time with his newborn baby because he is out with his drone attacking people in Gaza and the new born babies that are there. Such detachment which is also evident on here.

It’s awful how the innocent are suffering.

There’s no excuse for this. They’re not Hamas and were not responsible for 7/10.

SM is full of photos of Gazan children without mothers, limbs, or simply dead. Hind is just one child out of 11,000 dead. That figure doesn’t include those still under rubble, those that have been maimed, orphaned or severely traumatised by what they are experiencing.

To say this is down to Hamas is an excuse that courts are saying is NOT justified and IDF are committing war crimes.

ssd · 15/02/2024 21:23

I shudder even trying to imagine a second of that, never mind live it

ConnieCounter · 15/02/2024 22:45

Terrible. So many babies must be dying in those conditions.

Tripper79 · 16/02/2024 08:57

This is so awful. Imagine having a c-section without any pain relief and feeling every slice of the knife - just horrific!

Every day without a ceasefire and with aid denied is only going to lead to more mother and baby deaths. 😢

Dulra · 16/02/2024 09:05

It is just a horrendous a woman and her baby are at their most vulnerable during labour and post partum. I cannot begging to imagine the fear and anxiety those women must be going through. Many women are left traumatised after a complicated birth or if something goes wrong in a normal functioning safe hospital so it must be unbearable to be pregnant in Gaza right now. Do any of you remember the footage of the poor Ukrainian woman that had to evacuate a hospital at the beginning of the Russian invasion due to bombing in the area? There was footage of this everywhere and rightly so, yet there is next to nothing on mainstream media of these women. It is pretty disgraceful, shame on all of us.

Mags48 · 16/02/2024 09:21

Yesterday I saw a video of a woman who had given birth 30 minutes ago, having to walk out of the hospital with the snipers surrounding it. It is horrific.

EricInk · 16/02/2024 09:21

I can't believe what the mainstream media are focusing on-
Yesterday we were hearing about Jewish students being 'verbally abused' in Leeds because they were called settlers and colonisers. I appreciate those students don't deserve that and it makes them feel uncomfortable but this is the most minor of tragedies of this whole situation and it was broadcast multiple times as one of the main news items on the radio yesterday.
Also anyone prominent who speaks out against the situation is immediately shut down, accused of anti semitism and then loses their position/is publicly shamed.
The PP is right, I can't get Hind out of my head yet she is one of 11 000

madderthanahatter · 16/02/2024 23:18

I cannot imagine what these poor women are going through. This is a form of state sanctioned terror upon women and in turn their unborn/newborn babies. Imagine the horror every second of your pregnancy knowing there is little to no medical intervention, and you might have to have a c/s without anaesthetic 😭

TakeMe2Insanity · 16/02/2024 23:27

I recently had an emergency c section despite being in labour because it’s dangerous for me to give birth naturally, my baby then went to nicu for weeks, he now lives outside because of medication. It’s just horrible knowing that a mother to be in Gaza with the same chain of events probably would not have survived and if she had would her baby?

The carte blanche given to Israelis to do this is reprehensible.

How many of us would do that willingly let alone with ease?

I haemorrhaged after all my babies (3) so I would have died. Horrific and I still cannot believe on a website for mum's people are still defending the IDF and Israeli government. I have to reread things so many times because I cannot believe what I'm reading. Why? What are they not seeing?

They are seeing it but for them, the means justify the ends.

UN wanting to investigate reports of rape and other egregious crimes against Palestinian women at the hands of Israeli officials:
rape
threats of rape
arbitrary executions
physical assaults
denial of pads in custody
one women kept in a cage
shooting women and children whilst fleeing
naked searches by male army officials
degraded photos of women uploaded online by Israeli arm
children being separated from mothers

In medieval times, the maternal death rate was 1 in 20 and up to 30% of all children could die before their first birthday. Gaza's conditions are arguably worse than medieval England as the exclave lacks enough clean water to drink, let alone the ability to dress wounds or wash, and they are in an active war zone. I doubt there's enough antibiotics, let alone things like pain relief or inoculations.

The death rate will be at least three times higher than reported because no one is in a position to count avoidable deaths and no-one knows how many people are really buried under rubble.

TheABC · 20/02/2024 00:05

USA are drafting a resolution calling for a ceasefire and widespread mass humanitarian aid. I get the impression their patience has run out.

Also the departments/agencies to record deaths etc are no longer functioning (bombed) or able to function (international agencies no longer in the ground) or simply ignored on the basis they are hamas and can’t be trusted. The hamas angle is particularly irritating because if the same happened in eg the uk it would be the equivalent of saying “we can’t trust the stats of a dr in the nhs because they are run by the conservatives and they are in power”.

Silence1 · 13/03/2024 12:31

Endless horror. But I read comments on newspaper articles and charity appeals, for some people it is still not enough. They want more of the same. It is so sick.

“There are babies who died in their mothers’ wombs, and surgeries were performed to remove the dead fetuses,” he said on Monday. “Mothers are not eating because of the conditions we are living in, and this affects the infants … There are causes of many children suffering from dehydration and malnutrition, leading to death.”

The state endorsed horror being inflicted on a civilian population is horrific. Most of us have been through miscarriages, c section, gynae problems and they are going without drugs etc is beyond comprehension.
