Hamas has released a statement calling for a probe by the ICC into itself and Israel. They say-

“Hamas stands ready to appear before the ICC with witnesses and live testimony and bear the burden of any judicial finding against it or its members after a full and fair trial with rules of evidence; with examination and cross examination into we have done or not over the many years of our leadership as a national liberation movement.”

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? What reason could they have for calling for this? Is there a chance it could happen?

First evidence

Use their own fighters bodycams to show the invasion into Israel.

I don't know their motivations, but honestly, why not? Both Hamas and the Israeli government have committed vile atrocities with no regard for human life, that they both need to be held accountable and punished for with the full force of the international courts.

Yes, a full independent investigation into everything that's happened since October 7th until now seems like a good idea. As far as I'm aware Israel has refused to cooperate in any investigation so far.

Hamas doesn't have a reputation to damage in western countries. They seem to have been largely silent since Oct 7th. Israel on the other hand has told lie after lie. A full investigation would reveal the extent of Israel's lies and their own war crimes. Hamas know Israel will not allow such an investigation to take place which means they can safely say they want an investigation and make the Israelis look like they have something to hide. It's a clever move.

They may be terrorists but they have outsmarted the Israeli government in the propaganda war by simply saying nothing. An intelligent government would have the wisdom to take them more seriously.

Statement says throughout the whole of their existance, not only 7th October and forwards.
Actually, if it ever happens, it would be a good thing, I think.
What else can come out to light that we have already not heard of and feel disgusted to the chore?
Really, both sides should sit down to hear what the civilians have gone through in all these years and reflect on that. Stop point scoring in the more atrocious ways and start looking into the future. A future where all the civilians can live their life in peace, instead of just merely being alive, that is, if they are lucky. From both sides.
But I bet you this will not happen. And they will carry on killing each other, day after day after day after day....

MushMonster · 01/02/2024 17:12

Regarding their motivations, they do have this ideology that what they do is to defend their idea of God and the people they kill or who becomes a marthyr voluntarily goes to Heaven. So, the bulk of them seems not to care aboit what happens to them, even their families, on this Earth.
Regarding their leaders, yeah, as PP, they maybe trying to disrepite Israel, especially if it is Israel who refuses to go ahead with it, refuses to provide evidence... possibly a power and blame game. The real leaders, top dogs, will not put a foot anywhere near that court, another thing I would bet on.

Absolutely
It may also be a way of getting legitimised by equating themselves with a democratic country who has a legitimate military force, whereas they are viewed by most governments as an illegal terrorist organisation.

why not before 7-Oct?
I’m those who think war started before 7-10 and both were committing attroctities that should be accountable for.

provably they want to show the world they’re ready be listened and say why are they doing this and what Israel has put Palestine go through

inkworks273 · 01/02/2024 21:14

@EasterIssland Yes, you're absolutely right that this didn't start on October 7th. It should all be investigated.
