Conflict in the Middle East

To not understand how this is self-defense?

Trigger warning

My brain cannot process it right now. My questions are what does Israel hope to achieve really by targeting densely populated areas like this? What is the fate of injured children/people who're being operated on without anesthesia? Where do they go next when this is the "safe" south Israel asked them to go down to? After killing 16000 (of which 7000 are children) so far, where does Israel draw the line that the "war" goals are complete? How does anyone call this self-defense?

It's atrocious.

It isn't self- defence. It is beyond this now. It is ethnic cleansing/genocide.
I believe the Gazans are being "herded" closer and closer to the Egyptian border until they will have to cross it .en mass, as they won't be able stay in this small area.
When they have crossed it, they won't be allowed to return to Gaza.
I hope I am wrong...

dreamingdays · 06/12/2023 17:28

It's not self defence. It's genocide.

TwilightSkies · 06/12/2023 17:31

Its genocide. Ethnic cleansing. Slaughter.

Its most definitely NOT self-defense.

Telling Palestinians to go to ‘safe’ areas, then dropping bombs on the safe areas. Bombing bakeries so people starve. Bombing hospitals. Over 7000 children slaughtered. There’s no justification.

ThickPinkSocks · 06/12/2023 17:45

You’re right it isn’t self defence

It’s a land grab and this is the only way they’ll achieve it

Parkingt111 · 06/12/2023 17:45

I saw that this morning and it is probably one of the most horrific things I have seen
Although some may disagree I strongly feel we are seeing a genocide unfolding before us

I think there's only a little time left to stop what is happening before the damage becomes irreparable for the region. Israel and Palestine.
What is unfolding now will have long lasting repercussions for both
I don't see anyone winning here 💔

Thereissomelight · 06/12/2023 18:15

Land grab by dangerous extremists.

braticus · 06/12/2023 18:40

It's definitely a land grab. It's horrific. I just don't know how we're supposed to move past this as a society. We can't go back to the status quo. Elected officials who have backed Israel should never be given another days peace.

Bathsheba1789 · 06/12/2023 18:52

It’s ethnic cleansing pure and simple.
They will push the Gazan population so far south that they end up having to cross into Egypt just by sheer force of numbers. Then Gaza will be declared a demilitarised zone. Then a few years later, after the huge clear up to make Gaza habitable again, new settlements.

It’s clear that other governments are concerned but they have no leverage. Only the US does, and Biden just isn’t using it. I hope he does, that’s the only thing that MIGHT stop Israel’s extremist right wing government. However I worry that Netanyahu and the extreme right that he has done a deal with to keep onto power are gambling that Trump will be back before too long, so they can risk ignoring anything Biden might try to do anyway.

I haven’t clicked on that link. I have seen so many horrendous images over the last few weeks. It is so unbelievably sad and depressing. Biden made such a mistake when he gave carte blanche to Netanyahu. It will be a permanent stain on his legacy.

ChickHenLittle · 06/12/2023 19:09

As others have said, it isn't self defence in the slightest.

itwasntmetho · 06/12/2023 19:23

Truly shocking.

I'm quite interested in how this is going to play out for Israel in the long run Internationally. Israel have been seen as victims and have had sympathy and good will for decades. Now they have cemented themselves in the minds of young people as dangerous, genociders. I know that the pro war people on mumsnet studiously avoid anything by Palestinian journalists on social media but young people have been devouring it, those images of people carrying their relatives in plastic bags, the rows and rows of dead children are going to stay with them. They will always associate Israel with those horrific images and they will always remember the people who tried to justify it. I think the political landscape will look very different for Israel once those young people are the ones in power.

Toothyfruity · 06/12/2023 19:44

I'm not going to click on the link but totally agree. This is ethnic cleansing, genocide with assorted other war crimes thrown in for good measure.

Anyone defending Israel at this stage is defending war crimes.

My heart is breaking for the poor people living in Gaza. And the West Bank in fairness. People are also being terrorised there in a different way.

I really hope this latest move by the UN shakes the US into doing something to stop this. Because Israel doesn't give a damn. US doesn't either but there's an election next year and Genocide Joe is slightly less cute than Sleepy Joe.

Parkingt111 · 06/12/2023 21:40

@OuiOuiKitty I have similar thoughts. I know people on here are generally quite disparaging about the use of social media as a news source but that's the reality for much of the youth.
They have seen this war pan out with almost hourly updates
They have seen the unfiltered horrors and they are the leaders and generation of tomorrow.
I'm not just talking about the western countries but also the neighbouring countries in the middle east
Biden is in his eighties and Netanyahu in his seventies. Right now I only see them focusing on the very present or to some extent the very near future
But what about the long term effects the war will have in 30-40 years to come when these youth will be in charge
Will they so easily forget? These are serious concerns that I don't see much consideration given to

Livelovelaugh028384 · 06/12/2023 21:45

No matter how much we have people try to say its a war against hamas, we know it's not. It's a genocide pure and simple and the world is slowly waking up. I salute those that have been uploading and sharing the footage. They are the reason people are seeing the truth. Well done to them, I hope it's over soon and they get the justice the rightly deserve.

Superfoodie123 · 06/12/2023 22:07

It's cold blooded murder. They've wanted the land forever and they're doing whatever they can to get it. Babies, elderly and all.

Totally agree. On day 1 & 2 I did think maybe it was self defense and sending a message after the horrific things Hamas did. But very very quickly it became evident to me that Oct 7th is being used as an excuse for them to do what they've wanted to do for a long time. I'll never understand why Hamas did what they did, knowing what the counter action would be, but there is absolutely no justification for what IDF are doing right now. I am Jewish and I am disgusted and ashamed on behalf of my people

For sure. I don't think the people who haven't been following these journalists appreciate just what people have seen, it's unprecedented really. Watching a genocide unfold in real time via social media creators, creators like Motaz that people feel a real connection to. Watching the 'adults' in the room deny what they are actually witnessing realising perhaps for the first time that governments lie and cover up real horrors. I don't think any Western leaders anticipated this happening when they hopped over to Israel in the beginning to pat Netanyahu on the back. There has been very real damage done to Israels reputation and I don't see how that can be clawed back now. Bidens name is now mud, he will forever associated with genocide, that will be his legacy.

I can only hope that real change comes out of this. That this will spark new attitudes towards war and conflict and the very real suffering that people experience as a result.

Cadenza12 · 06/12/2023 22:18

It's been quite clear for a while what the agenda is here. What I can't understand is the failure of the majority of the world leaders to call it out for what it is. Thousands of children murdered, a whole population herded from pillar to post and attacked. There's nowhere safe in Gaza for anyone.
