Israeli UN envoy wears a yellow star

"Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan's star contained the words 'never again' as he criticised the UN for focusing on Gaza and not on the damage Hamas had done to his country." I do not understand it. I spoke to some Jewish friends who are beyond angry at this. They see it as an insult to the millions who didn't have a choice about wearing it, to the victims of the Holocaust and to the survivors. It is shocking.

He clearly isn't doing it to anger fellow Israelis or jews. He made a very impassioned speech to the UN. He is doing his job trying to garner support for Israel at the UN. I also think he is really speaking from the heart. His speech was impressive i thought. Its up to people if they want to be offended.

You can do all this without wearing a yellow star. If Israel needs to garner support, it must be because they are losing some. I wonder why. I also need to speak to my friends and tell them not to choose to be offended.

I think There has been successful Hamas propaganda against jews and Israel (looking at you BBC) and there is also the problem of antisemitism as we have seen and been shocked by. If your friends are Jewish then i think that is a very personal matter for them. If you are a non jew then i would probably butt out of that one and i would not for a second to tell Jews how to feel about that. Its so emotive and a personal symbol for them why would you take it upon yourself to instruct them how to feel and behave. If they are your friends then that is really an area you have no authority on.

It's sickening. To evoke the holocaust as some.sort of excuse to visit death and destruction on innocents is just sickening
