I don’t view Hamas as humans, they are pure evil.

However I am astonished at the atrocities Israel are committing and getting away with, I want to believe they are good and just defending themselves but it’s getting harder to do that. I have some questions if anyone could answer, I would be grateful. Before this gets deleted as that’s probably inevitable as mumsnet doesn’t like anyone questioning Israel.

Over 1,000 children have been killed since this all began. Why are Palestinian children’s lives not viewed as important as Israelis?

To the people who say Israel need to destroy Hamas. If Hamas had underground tunnels within Israel. Underneath Israeli homes, hospitals. Would you support the dropping of bombs and view the killing of innocent Israeli civilians as collateral damage and an unavoidable tragedy? Or do you think Israel, who has arguably the most efficient intelligence in the world, would find another way to obliterate them?

The UK and US wrongfully invaded Iraq killing thousands of civilians, some members of the army were raping women and in one case burnt a child alive. If at that time, Iraq had decided to bomb the UK killing thousands of civilians as a way to defend themselves, would you also support that?

The most recent tragedy last night at the hospital. Israel immediately took responsibility and were quite proud they had ‘killed terrorists’. They then deleted this tweet and backtracked saying it was Hamas, releasing audio between two members as ‘proof’.

How can they intercept phone calls between terrorists but failed to see the initial attack and massacre of innocent israelis coming? How is this considered as proof? The two people talking could be anyone.

Why would they claim responsibility if it was nothing to do with them?

What are the chances that a rocket misfires and just happens to land on a hospital that was supposed to be keeping hundreds of Palestinians safe?

I've no argument with that.

In England after Henry V111 died in 1547, succeeding monarchs took it in turns to burn either Catholics or Protestants at the stake.

That's history, unfortunately.

It’s interesting- I can’t remember where I read it but there was a theory about religions all going through similar arch’s in 500 ish year chunks - I can remember thinking there was some possible truth in it at the time- must dig it out and revisit. The getneral arch was start off unified, spilt into factions leading to dilution and its own demise, the end state being religion was then more cultural and slowly fading from society (usually replaced by another)

Interesting.🤔

In 1603, James VI succeeded to the English throne on the death of his cousin Elizabeth I with no direct heirs. James I of England, he rode south and was to spend almost the entire rest of his life in England.

He is thus known to us as James I of England and VI of Scotland.

He was Protestant.

Back to the Middle East.

The last I saw on TV was the concrete blocks impeding the Rafah Crossing functionality being removed by the Egyptians.

That is a good sign for the humanitarian aid hopefully

Generally, Sunni and Shia Muslims get along. They can and do marry.
The divide is usually only a big issue within the Middle East. Even then, it's more like a sectarian issue, if that makes sense? For example, if both suddenly got along or religion went "poof!", there would likely still be issues and fighting.

Exactly, and you can't discount the fact that a lot of these countries were created along "artificial" lines when the Europeans colonised them (just like Africa). They ruled via divide and conquer and a lot of those scars are still visible today.

It is interesting how a lot of the middle east are temporarily putting aside any grievances and the fact the Saudi Arabia's MBS and the Iranian leader spoke last week for the first time in 7 years, means that the paradigms have shifted.

ChickHenLittle · 20/10/2023 16:19

Most sources seem to be saying aid is being blocked because they can't get agreement beyond 20 trucks going through- which the UN has said is nowhere near enough.
It seems to be disagreements between Israel and Egypt, although Egyptian officials are saying it isn't Egypt blocking aid and they are angry at the accusation.

I wish everyone involved could just agree for the trucks to enter. It's sadistic at this point, whoever is blocking them.

Wonkasworld · 20/10/2023 16:31

Tempting to say men being left to make humanitarian decisions means testosterone over compassion and common sense. Although I don't want to be sexist! I sort of say that tongue In cheek because there's some steely minds being needed at the minute.

I'm not sure but are the UN there checking the trucks?

Well I’ll save my judgement on that til I know what is being discussed

AFAIK, Egypt wants them to stay in Gaza for the "Palestinian cause".

Only foreign nationals to be permitted to leave.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said a few days ago now:

"The threat there is significant because it means the liquidation of this (Palestinian) cause. It’s important for its people to stay steadfast and exist on its land.”

So, he wants them to stay put.

Well I guess we have it confirmed women and children are acceptable sacrifices whether Muslim or Jew for the “Palestinian cause”. Disgusting. There is a perfectly acceptable escape route to a safe country where aid could easily be available but it’s blocked (not by the Israelis). It’s very clear women and children are being used as weapons in the war now. If they are not let out their blood will be equally on Egypts hands ( and any other country not wanting them to leave)

Alcemeg · 20/10/2023 17:30

I'm interested to see the Palestinians' response to Hamas's recent atrocities. Hamas are showing their true face. Will Palestinians continue to support these maniacs?

Does anyone know whether Palestinians know about the atrocity in Israel? Had it been censored within Gaza?

On top of that, Hamas tell Gazans to stay put in their homes as well as inciting Gazans to confront the Israel Defense Forces. Hamas actively wants an escalation via the civilian population which is another way of using Gazans as human shields.

Good question, but you'd think at least some people would notice stuff like Shani Louk's broken body being paraded round the streets for everyone to spit on...?

WhiteHorseSpirit · 20/10/2023 18:03

I've said before that carpet bombing has a specific military meaning and that it doesn't fit with what's happening in Gaza.

Carpet bombing isn’t a military term at all. What IDF are doing to Gaza is shelling and air strikes. It is when shells and air strike missiles hit civilian homes and infrastructure- including hospitals, churches/mosques and such that people start using the term “carpet bombing” it is a layman, emotive term for a sustained campaign of shelling/missile strikes that violate international law and cause the targeted people to fear saturation bombing.

Similar to Russia in Ukraine-

What shelling means, and where Russia has bombed in Ukraine

The latest information from the World Health Organisation states 31 health facilities have been shelled across Ukraine, including a cancer hospital
