Please talk to me about low progesterone - poss Cerazette related?

I was on Cerazette for about 16/18 months following the birth of DS and came off it about 6 months ago, when we started trying again.

First of all, I know 6 months isn't really very long (it took us that long to fall with DS anyway) but it seems like there might be complications this time, but I don't really understand.

Before each period, I have about 3 days of spotting (one month this went on for a week) and then probably a couple of days of spotting afterwards. The period itself is only about 3 days long and relatively heavy, I think. When visiting the Dr for DS, I briefly mentioned this and she said it sounded like I had low progesterone but said it would sort itself out.

I have googled this (why? It's always a mistake!) and I see that Cerazette can leave women with fertility issues, poss relating to low progesterone. I started to get quite confused about what I was reading, so thought I would ask MNers for advice, experience and thoughts - what's going on with me, ladies?!

Hi Sunshine,

Didn't want this to go unanswered.

I was on Cerazette for about 4 years prior to ttc, and also read online info suggesting that when you come off some people's bodies take a while to start producing enough progesterone themselves, and that can result in early MCs (not enough progesterone to sustain the first part of the pregnancies). However everything I read suggested that your body should regulate this itself after a few months.

I didn't have any spotting issues but I did have a short luteal phase (the bit between ovulation and your period - mine was 9-10 days compared to "normal" of 10-16). I don't know if that can be caused by low progesterone.

GPs can do a blood test to check your progesterone so I would ask for that if I was you. Spotting for days before a period is not right. I think (not sure) that they can prescribe you progesterone if needs be.

Best of luck

Thank you - that's all very interesting. I will book to see my GP - just needed a prod in the right direction, I think!

Thanks for answering!
