Conception

Can someone please come and talk to me about follicle tracking/twin pregnancies?

Hello,

I appear to carry the gene for hyperovulation (conceived dichorionic twins, but subsequently miscarried).

Whilst the mc was very sad and traumatic (ERPC with no GA) it would be a lot better for DH and I if we did not have twins - We have no family at all nearby, and DH is away a lot with work.

We are TTC again now, and I'm really unsure what to do. I've been in touch with a local fertility clinic who can do internal scans to determine whether I will ovulate more than one egg in a given cycle, but I have a massive phobia of Gyne examinations, so much so I had arranged a ELCS through my GP as soon as I found that I was PG (this has really not been helped by the ERPC I had recently). It is also expensive, £130 per scan and I'd just prefer not to go down this route.

Is there any alternative? Can these scans be done trans-abdominally? Realistically, what are my chances of conceiving twins again? I have no family history of multiples, am 30, not overly tall and quite skinny, so I don't have any real predisposing factors.

I'm so confused, I'm even thinking of going Vegan whilst TTC as there is evidence that the hormones given to animals can pass into human females and overstimulate the ovaries hence increasing chances of twins.

Can anybody offer any insights please?

Hello , I really don't have an answer for you - its a bit of a specialist question! I too lost twins - possible triplets, and my DH lives in Germany so it would have been very hard work, we are TTC (when we are in the same country)but I will just take whatever is given to me

Is your gp no help at all? Sorry not much help but I didn't want your post to go unanswered x

This is an interesting pages about how twins are conceived at conception:-

Were you given a fertility drug like clomid in order to conceive?. This can increase the risk of multiples but its usually one egg that is released. It it how the egg divides that determines the number of embryos. I have never heard of a gene that causes hyperovulation; what usually causes this is the use of fertility drugs.

I really think you could do with a thorough chat with a well read gynae who could assure you because you want to conceive but also dread many gynae procedures. That fear is quite natural but it can eat away at you and take over which sounds like what is happening now. You need to confront your anxieties along with the underlying reasons for these properly.
