Hi ladies,

I am looking for any positive stories regarding PCOS.

I came off of the pill in October and didn't get my period. After 5 months I went to the docs and was sent for blood tests. I had the tests and then 3 days later hooray I got my period. It was all normal and I hoped that would mean all was well. However i was called back to the doctors and he said that the hormone levels show that I have polycystic overies. I was quite sure I didn't as I have no other symptoms at all.

I am so worried I am not going to be able to concieve. Can anyone offer any advice. I am going to start the GI diet and get as fit as possible to try and help but any other advice or support/positive stories would be greatfully recieved.

Hi - this thread is a little out of date. We've got some more information on PCOS here. MNHQ

Hi Brilaunt,

I have heard of people who get their BMI's sorted either losing weight or putting weight on and there are success stories.

My BMI is 32 so I have some weight to lose too although doubt I will ever get down to the right one! I am sure I have heavy bones as I am only a 14/16 dress size now and would need to lose over 5 stone to get to the ideal bmi, I am still classed as overweight when I am a size 10/12! I am determined to really really really go for it though as it can't hurt and can only help. The GI diet is supposed to be the best for PCOS.

On another note, we have been trying this month but I am not sure I have ovulated, the OPK's don't seem to have picked anything up so I have given up on them. I have my fingers crossed for either a period or in an ideal world a bfp this weekend not holding my breath but who knows maybe a stroke of luck! xx

Congratulations BabyBecks

Am going to see if AF turns up (in an ideal world due tommorrow but who knows!) if not I am going to go back to the docs in a week or so and start temping as I haven't tried that yet.

I am not sure how long they will get me to leave it before they will help so I want to go back and find out.

Thanks for the support
Dani

Hi Dani, Thanks very much. Good, good luck this weekend. Not sure about OPK kits - i hate doing them, but as Babybecks suggested I may start temping (although I dont know what I'm doing - will have to look it up!) We'll get there in the end you know.

Thanks, no AF yet (as if it would be that regular) but I don't feel right. Have had a few cramps and feel a bit sick and have a terrible taste in my mouth! Quite sure I am talking myself into having pregnancy symptoms though

We'll see x

Well........................?????

LittlePushka · 11/04/2010 22:37

Just a very quick post to say I was diagnosed with PCOS twenty years ago.

Fast forward to now, two happy healthy boys naturally conceived, first after one year of trying, second after two months !!

There is life after diagnosis is my little message. I have been where you are now, as indeed have so many of these lovely posters.

I wish you very good luck!

Danilou22 · 12/04/2010 08:43

Thank you LittlePushka,

Well ............... no AF but that is no big suprise however I still have a terrible taste in my mouth, I had to have a snooze yesterday after walking around a carboot sale for half an hour and the feeling sick (which I am still sure could be in my head) is getting worse (I am not a sick person and even with a sickness bug feel sick but have to make my self sick)

I am sure it is just terrible symptom spotting as my boobs are not sore despite me prodding them every 5mins and I am more than happily sitting here drinking coffee (albeit feeling sick) I am sure it is wishfull thinking and it is not going to be as easy as that!

If now AF by wednesday I will get a test x

Hi there
Friends of mine had PCOS and were giving themselves up to 2 years to conceive. I believe it took a fortnight first time round (which they were a bit shocked by) and 6 weeks second time round. I think they were kind of relying on it not happening quickly!

Good luck with yours.

Hi Danilou I have my fingers crossed for you for Wednesday!

I have been prescribed Metformin today and am feeling more positive than I have done in ages, although my GP put the kaboosh on that a little bit by stating that only 46% of women see their periods regulate after taking Metformin (22% regulated after taking a sugar pill)... I thought it was a bit higher than that!

twolittlemonkeys · 12/04/2010 13:20

Hi Danilou. I have polycystic ovaries and took 18 months to conceive DS1 (managed with the help of Clomid!) DS2 was a happy surprise 2 years after DS1 was born (no AF in between the two of them!) I am now on Clomid again as we are ttc#3. Am trying to hold out til Friday before I test....

Danilou22 · 12/04/2010 17:21

Good luck twolittlemonkeys

Right, still no AF but I do think it is on it's way. I am very very teary (cried at the insurance man yesterday when my insurance was a little more than expected, then cried all evening at every little comment my OH made!) I am still feeling sick (in waves not all the time) and have niggly stomach cramps today. Am expecting imminant arrival any min. One odd thing though, and I am very sorry if this is TMI just before lunch I went to the loo this morning and I have loads and loads of CM, what is that all about and is that normal just before AF arrival, I have never noticed it before.

Wish AF would just arrive and put me out of my misrey!

Danilou22 · 14/04/2010 08:26

Morning,

As predicted a big fat BFN this morning but chin up we didn't want a christmas baby anyway!

I had period pains all day yesterday so am now just wishing and wishing that AF will turn up so I can at least hope to be kind of regular!

brilaunt · 15/04/2010 20:36

Hi Danilou/BabyBecks and everyone else, how are you getting on? I'm currently on CD12 and charting like mad - my first time. xxx
Dani - I get Cm just before AF quite regularly.Hope your ok. It's horrible seeing that BFN - You will get there in the end.x

Danilou22 · 16/04/2010 16:41

Still no AF and symptoms seem to have dissapeared apart from feeling sick every now and then and the odd tummy twinge. I was so sure I was getting my period and am now feeling grumpy that I have not got it and I can't face another negative test!!

I have now started charting to see if I can get some idea of what my body is doing!

Grrrrr!!!

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 16/04/2010 16:51

Temp charting and PCOS are an uneasy combination as this can be nigh on impossible to interpret with any degree of accuracy.

Have you as yet been referred to a gynae at a subfertility unit; sometimes these problems need careful management.

Danilou22 · 16/04/2010 17:01

Not yet. The trouble is I am overweight and I know from friends experiences that they are unlikly to do anything untill I have shifted a few pounds.

I wanted to see if I would get a period this month and am only on CD34 so I will give it until next week and then go to the docs to see if they will help yet.

8rubberduckies · 17/04/2010 20:35

Danilou, I am joining you in symptom-spotting-based craziness. My partner is away all weekend so I'm gonna have to wait til I test, but I have been suffering from a dry mouth, runny nose, nausea and a crazy sense of smell since Thursday night!

I went to bed last night and led there for ages wide awake and completely convinced myself I was pregnant! I think it's very cruel that we, who are trying to conceive, are not having periods either, so your imagination can run riot with you constantly. At least if AF appears every so many weeks you know where you stand ... I keep thinking that maybe I ovulated 2 weeks ago and didn't know it... arrrgggh!

Maybe I'll just crack open a bottle of red and forget about it... Metformin starts Monday so I should get it in whilst I can...

Danilou22 · 18/04/2010 09:12

I know what you mean. Even though I have had the negative test I still have the thoughts in my head that maybe I tested too early, maybe I ovulated later, maybe I am ovulating now, maybe AF is coming. Every single little twinge or symptom I jump on! costs an absoloute fortune in PG tests!

One symptom I do have at the moment is very very sore nipples, not boobs just nipples. I have had this before and was convinced I must be ovulating, it turned out I wasn't and I didn't get my period for a few weeks afterwards but I am going to note it down and see if there is a pattern emerging

As for the wine, I have had some this weekend

Good luck keep us posted x

Danilou - AF arrived Sunday, both happy to see it after 3 months and a little disappointed too! Trust it to turn up the day before I start taking Metformin!

Danilou22 · 19/04/2010 21:05

It is so hard! I am still waiting for AF but would of course rather have a BFP.

Can I ask what Metformin does? Sorry to be ignorant.

Still have sore nipples!

Danilou22 · 20/04/2010 19:14

I have started spotting tonight so am assuming this is AF. I feel ok at the moment, it is usually really painful so am kind of waiting for it to kick in!

Not as bad as I thought cycle length 39days I can live with that and interested to see what happens next month.

Am going to temp this month just out of interest
