I am petrified that I am pregnant even though I took the morning after pill less than 12 hours after my 'accident' (condom split). Please reassure me that it will work.

It does have a good success rate (sorry, I don't know percentages off the top of my head) but I do have a friend who took the morning after pill but is still expecting her 2nd dc any day now.

It sounds as if you're not wanting to become pregnant right now, so I really hope it's worked for you. xxx

I did 13 years ago... but pregnancy still 'took'. I lost the baby at 14 weeks, and felt just awful. It does have a good success rate, so hopefully you will be ok.

Please take this as a warning, and have an additional contraceptive asap (if you can). Condoms are not very reliable, and if the thought of being pregnant petrifies you, then best to be doubly protected.

The earlier you take it the better chance you have of it working. I took it about 6 hours before the 72 hour deadline and I still got pregnant, but wouldn't give my ds (4.5) back for anything

I got pregnant after taking it within 12 hours, but lost it at ten weeks. It was a few years ago for me though so maybe they're more reliable now; no medical people at the time seemed remotely surprised I had got pregnant with the MAP. I recently had a contraceptive mishap and was loath to take it again as I was convinced it would MAKE me pregnant, so did a lot of research and it seemed like half of mumsnetters have a MAP baby running round... but I imagine it's much more important when you had sex ie what cycle day.

If you really don't want to be pregnant, go get an IUD fitted if possible, they work up to five days after (though again not perfect..) x
