Hi all,

Am new here but have been following most of the threads for a couple of months now. It is great for all of you to belong to such a good network that has created a close bond.

Am 34.5 yrs diagnosed PCOS almost 20 years ago.Am told mine is mild and have normal weight (65kg) for my height. Naturally, been having very irregular periods that can go up to 3-4 mths. Been TTC for the past 3 years and unfortunately had 2 miscarriages.Been on almost all kinds of fertility treatments (Clomid, Metafolmin, Injectables) that regulates my AF but do not conceive. Mind you both times, I conceived naturally while on medical break. Currently, am not on any treatment, as we are considering IVF as our next step. Not gotten AF for almost 4 mths now.

Well ladies, I just need to hear from any other PCOSers' experiences to a successful pregnancy. Will really appreciate your info that might assist me and other women. Thankx a bunch!

still not much time but wanted to say that anyone who has miscarried before should have hormone levels checked during pregnancy and should also ask if it is appropriate for them to take metformin and/or aspirin when pregnant. Metformin hasn't been tested in pregnant women but several verity members have continued to take it during pregnancy. I didn't know about any of this when pregnant, was not offered any special care and get quite angry thinking about it. I have been lucky, though.

Although the causes of pcos aren't known there is a belief that for many women the problem is actually insulin resistance and that causes the other problems. If you regulate insulin levels either with a low gi diet or with metformin many women conceive (including me). It isn't always easy to stick to the diet but the verity website has boards where you can find support. There used to be a mailing list but I dropped out of that and don't know if it still exists. The website and mailing list are open to people abroad although there are also support groups in other countries.

Verity also does meetups, although I never attended one, and has talks from leading fertility experts which are then reported in the newsletter. Since many gps are poorly informed its the best place to get advice on treatments. People can direct you to excellent websites too.

Ovarian drilling only works for a limited time and may have to be repeated. Therefore its best to ttc as soon as you feel better after the procedure.

Best of luck to everyone ttc. Periods sometimes become more regular in women with pcos later in life. Its not something to rely on but it does give hope.

Tatt thankx for the information. It is true PCOSer tend to miscarry at early pregnancy and mainly due to insufficient hormone levels to sustain it. I did miscarry 2 and both times I didn't have much information as i do now. Sometimes, I keep telling myself, if i had known then, I would have insisted on being prescribed with progesterone supplements. My then new Dr didn't believe me when i told her I had PCOS 'cause we had just started various tests when I found I was pg. Anyway, am just hoping I will get pg sometime soon. PCOS is such a roller coaster ride for some of us.We pray for the best!

I will try and see if Verity also provide information for people outside Britain.

Good luck to all of us TTC with PCOS. We shouldn't give - It will happen!!

Hi Keysha,

Actually its the other way around. There is evidence to suggest that very high levels of LH are a contributory factor in m/c although the underlying causes of same are not always known.

Fee05 · 06/10/2005 16:39

Meerkats, thanks for the info, have appt with specialist on Mon...

tatt · 07/10/2005 06:22

This is one of the websites often recommended by verity members

www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=infertility101&id=2

If you search the site there is a lot of other information besides the FAQ. It's a general infertility site so also good for women without pcos.

There are american mailing lists for women with pcos if the verity one is no longer running. I wasn't a verity member when I was on the list so they were pretty much open to anyone.

Keysha - I've been looking for you everyday, thought ,maybe you were mad at me . So happy you are not!

I'll still be keeping an eye on you so no slacking now ok? I have no doubt you'll be right behind me and we'll both be fat and happy very soon.

Keysha · 19/10/2005 15:41

I can not be annoyed with you . I'm praying that I will be right behind you and we shall have healthy pgs together. How wonderful will that be after sharing similar experiences? We should only trust!

Otherwise, how is the pg treating you? What pregnancy supplements are you taking now? Make sure you enjoy every day of it. Just relax, pamper yourself and enjoy. You deserve it girl.

For sure, I will keep you posted.

I'm not doing too badly at the moment, have the odd day where I feel terrible but on thw whole I tink I have got off pretty lightly so far. Was 9 weeks yesterday so already feels like I'm flying through it........can't wait for my next scan though when we should be able to see a little person rather than a prawn shaped thing!

Keysha · 01/11/2005 07:04

Hi,

Hope you are all well. Just an update on me. I was 8 wks pregnant until yesterday when I went for my second scan to find that i had been miscarrying slowly. I underwent a D& C procedure last nite. I found out i was pregnant a month ago and started to experience light bleeding and cramps at 5 wks. Was put on 2 weeks bedrest plus progesterone suppliments.

Am very devastated as this is my 3rd m/c in the 4 years of TTC no. 1. This is very hard for me. I had so much faith in this pg. I leave everything to God!
