I just want to know, not because I think I am pregnant despite being on my period, but because I would love to know whether this does happen - and I mean proper period not a light bleed. Please don't shout at me for my silly question - I know you really need to miss a period to be pregnant.

This time 8 years ago, I was pregnant but didnt know!!!

I was on the pill with my daughter, on anitbitoics i admit, but have done in the past and been ok, had a period, 2 days less than normal (5 instead of 7) and discovered I was pregnant at 13 weeks! Drank for some of that too = celebrate finishing antis!!!

foxinsocks · 01/03/2009 20:51

yes I did, nearly 9 years ago.

I didn't even test so convinced I was that I wasn't pregnant because of the bleeding.

It was lighter than my normal period.

Doc said it wasn't unusual as I was on the pill and the bleeding was timed with my bleeding week anyway iyswim.

The result is 9 this August

foxinsocks · 01/03/2009 20:52

actually, it will be nearly 10 years ago won't it

Insanity · 01/03/2009 21:04

Same here, I was on the pill and took antibiotics for a week. My bleed coincided with my weekoff the pill.
Didnt find out I was pregnant till I was 16 weeks!

ForeverOptimistic · 01/03/2009 21:07

Yes it happened to me. I did a pregnancy test which was negative then got my period later that day, it was Christmas Eve so I thought the upside of not being pregnant was being able to over indulge on champagne. Four weeks later it turns out I was pregnant after all!

sillyquestions · 01/03/2009 21:36

Hi foreveroptimistic - so far you are the only one not on the pill who had this. was it a proper period - in lngth etc?

Yep, but I did have a positive pregnancy test - thought I was miscarrying. Wasn't though. He's asleep next to me on the sofa

lizziemun · 01/03/2009 21:52

Yep me. Am currently 39wks pg with unexpected dc3.

Not on the pill or bfeeding. Only did it once when dd2 was 10mths and a week before AF was due. AF arrived when it should have and was the normal 3/4 days length.

Only thought i my be when the next af didn't arrive and mum told me I was like she had with the other 2 pg's.

ForeverOptimistic · 02/03/2009 09:33

It was a little lighter and shorter than normal but still heavy enough to require a tampon.

A bit late to this but thought I post my experience to this, someone may find this useful. I had a pretty much same experience as some of you on here.
Couple of weeks back I was few days late for my period, I'm still breastfeeding so thought probably hormone related but thought I will do pregnancy test anyway. Said not pregnant (clearblue digital , days indicator). Then I started period the same day. Had what I would describe normal period for me. It was medium flow and about 6 days long with cramps, definitely wouldn't say it was lighter. A week after I finished my periods I felt so nauseous one day, it lasted the whole day and it just felt suspicious.... :D So even that I was certain I was not pregnant, I did pregnancy test the next morning and to my surprise it said 2-3 weeks pregnant! I then did an another one (clearblue one but not digital one this time) the next day and another one two days after that and they were also positive. The pregnant line actually appeared very strong and appeared before the negative one!
I'm going to register my pregnancy soon but not sure what I say when they ask me how far I am as if I count it from what I thought was my period I'm 2 weeks, by clearblue I'm 3 weeks and if I count from my actual last period I'm 7 weeks....😂
Would love to know if anyone has had similar experience to mine :D

@FaeTheGreenWitch clear blue dating pregnancy tests date from conception (when the egg gets fertilised so just after ovulation) so it will have been around 2-3 weeks since that so you add on around 2 weeks to give how many weeks nhs would consider your pregnancy

AMorningstar · 01/11/2022 16:39

Had periods throughout my first pregnancy for about 3 months.

Saribon · 05/11/2022 10:27

Hi, when I had my daughter 13 years ago, I didn't find out I was pregnant until 12 weeks because I had bled every month. I wasn't on the pill but I was breastfeeding my older son. It was heavy bleeding like a period. It turned out I'd had a small clot behind my placenta which resolved itself. After finding out I was pregnant I had one more big bleed and then the pregnancy progressed fine.
