I want to conceive 2nd baby May next year, and I think I should start trying in April? I'm due to get married in July and need to fit in the dress but would like to do a 'we're pregnant' announcement at the wedding. It took me 3 months of being off protection (only 12 days of actual trying) last time. Baby is 6 months now.

So a huge poll really.

How long did it take you for 2nd baby?

How old was DC1 when you started trying?

A good friend of mine, who is not ignorant of the whole getting pg business as she studied medicine, came off the pill thinking it would take a while to conceive and then went around Oz with her DP, meant to be for a year, conceived within the month and spent 6 months tired and pg travelling around Oz and had to cut the trip very short as she needed to return to work for x amount of time before maternity leave to be entitled to it! Very short sighted!

We are going to ttc no.2 in Jan 09, with the view that it will happen when it will happen. It could be a month or two, it could be a year or two, either way we are happy. It would be too stressful to plan it in too much detail.

ladyhelen2 · 11/11/2008 13:37

Started trying for #2 when DS was 21 months. Got pg straight away but then mc. 18 months and 2 more mc later, am now 15 weeks pg. Not the way we planned it at all. You will be lucky if it all goes the way you plan. But have to agree with a couple of others on here. Honeymoon baby sounds far better than being 3 months gone at your wedding. I could barely stay awake at 12 weeks.

jlh69 · 11/11/2008 13:44

Took a year and half to concieive DD.
A couple of months for DC2- currently 27 wks PG.
Thought would take a lot longer so will have a slightly smaller gap than anticipated but not getting any younger (am 39) so very relieved and grateful it happened quickly the second time.

jlh69 · 11/11/2008 13:46

Would like to add that I don't think that you can plan it at all really as you NEVER know what will happen. Also, I didn't really feel sick either pregnancy but was much more tired this time for the first 16 weeks or so.

EsmeWeatherwax · 11/11/2008 13:52

Took me two months to conceive dd, and one month to conceive this one, dd was 15mo. But I would really think about it if you're planning your wedding. I have felt a million times worse with this pregnancy than with the last one. Much more tired and sick.

lg08 · 11/11/2008 13:54

First month of trying with ds and my dd. I guess I must have been lucky or super fertile
We started trying again when ds was 18 months.

bratnav · 11/11/2008 13:58

Took 18mo to conceive DD1, managed to conceive DD2 in one night after a drunken Christmas wedding, the first time we had sex after DD1 and didn't again for another month, so I know it was then

Neeerly3 · 11/11/2008 14:04

we started ttc DC3 (second preg) when DT's were 3.4, conceived a month later EXACTLY 4 years to the day after we conceived the DT's, so DC3 is now due on exactly the same day as the DT's (they were born 11 weeks early however). Freaky!

denbury · 11/11/2008 14:11

ds1 was a surprise!!! we tried for number 2 when ds1 was just over 13months old. theres a 2 year old gap between them. i cried with number 1 about 36 hours after having him and with ds2 about 24 hours. we moved our wedding because of ds1. i wanted to enjoy the wedding and have a glass of bubbly to celebrate!!(or maybe a few more as the case was!!!)

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 11/11/2008 14:16

4 months for dd1
6 months for dd2
0 months for ds1 - we now have a 15 month gap -whoops.

How about enjoying the wedding first and worrying about babies later?

lizziemun · 11/11/2008 14:48

2.5yrs for dd1
3yrs for dd2
Just once since falling pg with dd2. dd2 wil be 18mths when no3 arrives.

TigerFeet · 11/11/2008 14:50

I don't think it's possible to be so accurate as to say "I want to be pg in May so I'll start trying in April"

It could happen straight away

It could take months or even years

In your shoes I'd leave it until after the wedding.

Good luck

LollysMum1 · 11/11/2008 17:14

DD1 took 4 months. Started trying for #2 when she was 17 months, that was a year ago. Had a MC in July and everything has been completely haywire ever since cycle wise. So just get on with it is my advice!!

Sariska · 11/11/2008 19:32

My DS is 7 1/2 months old and, weirdly, despite horrible sleep deprivation, I'm starting to think about DC2. However, I'm telling myself that my sudden broodiness is just hormonal and am focussing on self-preservation by deciding that I'd like at least 2 years between my DC. Thus, I won't start TTC until June when DS will be 15 months old. That way, even if I get pregnant immediately I will get the hoped-for 2 year gap. Of course, chances are I won't get pg the first month - it took 3 months with DS - but I can live with that. Right now, getting pg any earlier than that seems too daunting to contemplate. (DH, by the way, would probably start TTC tomorrow if I caved.)

MrsMattie · 11/11/2008 19:34

No offence, but I think you should chill out a wee bit about the exact dates you conceive, or you are just askingt o be disappointed.

For the record, I conceived my DS within a month of trying. 2nd time around it took 4 months, but I miscarried. Then had a 3 month break from ttc, then got pregnant within 2 months of trying again.

2point4kids · 11/11/2008 19:39

DS1 first month of ttc
DS2 was a surprise!

Got pg with DS2 when DS1 was 18 months old

NorthernLurker · 11/11/2008 19:40

I don't know why two years or less is touted as an ideal gap? I have nearly three years between dd1 and dd2 and it's great. They are very close and dh and I were a lot less knackered than many of our friends! I've also realised that unless they choose very long courses we won't need to pay for anymore than one at university at any one time. Come on ladies - plan ahead!!!
Raginghormone - I would forget about it and hope for a honeymoon baby. You don't want to announce it at the wedding - it might steal the thunder of all those couples who'll be getting engaged that day!

NorthernLurker · 11/11/2008 19:41

Wink Grin

carmenelectra · 11/11/2008 19:44

It took me about 4 mths with ds 2 and ds 1 was 8 when he was born lol. Maybe too much of a gap eh?

I conceived DS first try and DD 5 years later second try. however, my friend who was TTC before me took 10 months to fall pregnant and was upset as she had it all planned out, so domn;t be disheartened if you don;t get pregnant when you want to !

WorzselMummage · 11/11/2008 19:52

dd was a surprised
we started trying when she was 12 months, i am due in March next year, dd will be 4+2.

noonki · 11/11/2008 19:56

6 months for DS1
one night of planned passion for DS2 - (DH was gutted!)

DS1 was 19 months when DS2 was born.

fanjolina · 11/11/2008 19:58

Pregnant first month of trying with DD1. Start trying again when she was 3 months old. Took 2 years (and 3 MC's) before we had a successful pregnancy resulting in DD2.

you really can't plan these things

MKG · 11/11/2008 20:36

DS1 was 12 months old when I conceived ds2 in one night.

Ds2 was 12 months when I conceived this baby (due in March) again in one night.
