Referral for fertility tests/treatment - what happens

Have got our first consultation in January.I assume they will start with repeating the blood tests and sperm test. What happens then?

I am not able to get IVF for free now but have been told I can have a post-coital test, my tubes tested etc.

Can someone run through what happens when you see the consultant/fertility person with time scales? TA

Hi Beanieb

We started the ball rolling with our investigations back in April, I had the usual day 3 and day 21 blood test and dp had a sperm test, we got our referal appointment for the beginning of July, where they redid both my blood tests and dp's sperm test, now I suppose depending on where you live and the dr your under, will depend on what course of action they will take next, I was put forward to have a laparoscopy to investiage to see if I had any underlying problems, so that was all sorted at our first appointment and I had the laparoscopy done on the 30th September and the follow up appointment is 8 weeks after.

Our first inital appointment at the hospital was fairly brief, I did take copies of my previous blood tests and dp's sperm test results, he mainly asked about my cycles and then suggested the laparoscopy, I know there are others ways they can check for any problems, so will all depend on your hospital etc as to what they reccommend for you.

I think the trouble is in these situations it is such a postcode lottery and can be much quicker for some and for others take much longer.

I hope that helps a bit
xxx

Thank you

I hope I am in a lucky area. I am 39 in April and I can't wait around.
