fibroid related infertility - anyone had this? Did you get them removed? What was it like?

I've just had a pelvic scan as part of the investigations for secondary infertility. The scan doctor found a fibroid (she didn't say how big) projecting into my uterus on a little stalk - a pendunculated intracavity fibroid. This is the type that can interfere with fertility and act a bit like a coil, stopping you getting pregnant. Which would help explain the past year of FTC. She suggested that the next step would be a hysteroscopy and possible removal of the fibroid.

I'm worrying now that this will be a major op, long recovery, no more TTC for months and months.

Has anyone had this procedure? How was it? How long was recovery? And (vital this bit!) did you go on to get pg afterwards???

I had a myomectomy to remove the fibroids in March '05. Mine were different in that I had lots of them OUTSIDE the womb, so it was pretty major surgery.

But worth it as I now have a lovely 20 month DD! I know ones inside are different and I hope someone else has experience of those!!

I've had one of these removed but it was not done through a hysteroscopy. I had a laparoscopic type operation done (keyhole surgery) to remove it. I also saw a photo of it post op!. Mine was congenital in nature but these things do release hormones and that also affected ovulation (as you rightly surmise).

I became pg soon after its removal.

Hysteroscopy is a procedure done under GA with I think a short recovery time.
