Cut long story short, Dh and i have used withdrawal for 5yrs since our dd was born and never had any problems. I've not been too well over last few weeks just really tired and sore heads we have had a lot on, kids birthdays and a weekend at alton towers all very tiring. Now this morn after painting dd's room i realise i had my last period i think was on tues 20th may or could even have been the week before. I'm now really panicking at thought of explaining to dh that i'm late, i'm usually quite reg maybe every 32-35days, is this quite a long cycle?

Anyone ever been this late and not preg?

Oh itati, I know, the proof is latched on as we speak. I do need to sort something out, but I don't like messing with my hormones, and neither of us like condoms.

TinkerbellesMum · 01/07/2008 16:54

I have a problem with contraception. I can't take hormones because I'm a clotting risk, barrier is not great in a relationship and I won't use any abortifacient form of contraception. I've been told the jab is low enough dose of hormone so I may take that next time.

Do a test! Do a test!

We only use withdrawal when I'm ovulating otherwise leave it in....

itati · 01/07/2008 17:29

I am not getting at you, KelaH. Most of us don't like condoms but there has to be a better way or you will just have to accept you may have a bigger family very soon.

I just know another baby would have been a disaster for us so hubby had the snip. Didn't stop me panicking this month when I was late though!

BHM - you thrill seeker you!!!

mags98 · 01/07/2008 21:38

Please people, don't rely on withdrawal.

It doesn't work. More or less the same as using nothing really. No good avoiding ovulation time either - sperm can last up to 7 days and ovulation is very unpredictable anyway. If you are using natural family planning that is different but has to be done properly and accurately which is very complicated.

(mawma, please just do a test, ok?)

There are loads of options - progesterone only methods are usualy ok in clotting problems (POP, Mirena, implant, injection), modern copper coils are more effective than sterilization (and not abortifacient, they work by killing sperm as the primary method, not by preventing implantation as commonly thought), condoms, etc etc.

Not meaning to lecture, but I see far too many peopl in this situation, just think about it before this is you!

3 DDs in 3 years for us - not the best method to use unless you like surprises

However when we did TTC it took us ages to get it right

TinkerbellesMum · 01/07/2008 22:12

Contraception's not an issue for us at the moment, but my rheumie recommends the injection which is what we were going to do this time, but we were only going to put it off a few months just to get a few things sorted, but nothing that is a biggie really.

Only thing that worries me is letting someone else stick needles in me, I'm so used to doing it myself now!

Did predictor test yest, and its neg. Still no period, but now i am freaking out because when i was expecting my dd a test at 5weeks showed neg and 3 weeks later another test and a blood test proved pos. Could i possibly ovulated really late on as i did with my dd and its too early to test, maybe i could just be about 3weeks. At night i have this dull ache on my right side as if my period is about to start but then nothing. My boobs are not sore just a bit sqidgy if that makes sense. It has given dh a shock as we are not planning on any more kids because of my spine condition, so he has agreed on the snip asap.

a friend has now suggested pcos, actually had never thought of that, my skin is terrible, hair growth on my chin that i have been plucking over last few weeks (just thought i was getting to that age where we all get them) and dull ache in my stomach plus not sleeping well over last 2 months. I'll be visiting the nurse soon.

You could have concieved later in the month Mawma, especially as you may have been more active then..thinking it is safer!

I concieved late with my last pregnancy (3 days before period was due!) and didn't get a positive for weeks!

Could be pcos also....or just prehaps as you have been busy and now stressed with this it has delayed your period.

I had a scare last month, 3 weeks late and i have been sterilised! so you can also be quite late for no apparent reason.

My advice would be to see the g.p..rule out pregnancy, discuss pcos....and get hubbys vasectomy moving along.

Hope it all works out.
