Measuring 5+4 on scan after late ovulation, has anyone experienced this?

Hi

for background my lmp was 14/07 but I then ovulated late on the 2nd of August.

I got a positive test on the 16th august and had a scan today think I’d see a blob baby as I thought I was 7 weeks.

however there was a yolk sac and nothing more, he measured and said I was measuring 5+4 so obviously way behind where I should have been.

i have had some spotting but no pain and have the usual pregnancy symptoms of nausea and headaches, sore boobs etc.

has anyone had a similar experience? I am obviously expecting the worst now x

Hi, I had similar and unfortunately it wasn’t good news for me. Scan at 8 weeks but I ovulated late so expected to be closer to 7 weeks. It showed yolk sac but no fetal pole. Did they offer you another scan in a week or so to check for any development?

The uncertainty is awful, I’m sorry you are going through it x

We sadly had a similar experience twice and both ended in bad news. First time i should have been just over 6 weeks - only yolk sac seen. A week later yolk sac and fetal pole but never progressed beyond this. Second time I should have been 7 weeks and only a yolk sac and never progressed either.

Hope you get better news.

I have a repeat scan in a week but there doesn’t seem to be much hope does there x

I’m really hoping it is good news for you, after all. You never know…you’ve ovulated late, maybe it implanted late too, also they’re so itty a couple of millimeters big there is margin for error with a scan this early…it could well be you go in a week and it’s caught up / developed proportionately to the time that has passed. I think hoping for good news is okay.

Yes, I was 8 days behind where I thought I should be, he’s now 14!
good luck and hope it’s a positive for you too

I measured nearly a week behind with my son, All they seen on mine was a yolk sac and then when I went back 2 weeks later he was there with a good heartbeat and then soon caught up to the original dates! Praying this is the case for you 🤞💙💗
