Given your age and how long it took for you to conceive the first time, along with how long you’ve been trying now, I’d go for the tests.

Have you spoken to your GP firstly? I don't know what is available because you already have a child, but even if they only did the D21 blood test, its one less thing you'd need to pay for.

Thank you both! I’ve booked an appt with the GP for next Friday so will see what they can offer and the wait time 🙏🏽 thankfully can afford the private tests if the nhs is going to take too long. Good luck if you both are going through TTC xx

Just make it clear to the GP you have been TTC OVER 6mths OP. When I saw my GP for testing, they said I'd come 1 week too early for any testing! Long story short, we TTC 12yrs, lost 3 and have no living children. It likely wouldn't have changed things, but I wasn't on MN and didn't know what the norm was, so wish I'd pushed to be referred earlier. Wishing you all the best x

Long story short, we TTC 12yrs, lost 3 and have no living children. It likely wouldn't have changed things, but I wasn't on MN and didn't know what the norm was, so wish I'd pushed to be referred earlier. Wishing you all the best x

Hi! I’ve just turned 35 and TTC no2 (first has just turned 5), we are on cycle 11 (although have to miss a cycle as I am away with work around ovulation time this month 😭😭). Our first baby took 10 months of trying and on month 9 we had a fertility MOT which came back to say we were in good health. Do you think it’s worth getting another fertility check if a lot can change in 5 years? It’s around £560 at our local clinic. Has anyone had two rounds of testing before? We are fitter and healthier than ever in terms of general health/ wellbeing. Desperate to be pregnant again and don’t want to wait any longer in case there are now issues 😪 thanks!!x

Hey OP! We’re in a similar boat, have a wonderful 2.5 year old but now on cycle 12 of trying for #2 after a loss last year. Both times I got pregnant before we’re on cycle 1 so this is new ground for us. I’m going out of my mind and have convinced myself there’s something wrong. We’re considering going to a fertility clinic but am also scared to go there and be pushed towards IVF. Sadly our GP has said we’d have to wait until we’ve been trying for 12 months before they’d consider testing which isn’t until November (I have short ish cycles).
How are you handling the monthly disappointment? I’m finding it really tough now. I think like a previous post said you could ask your GP or have the fertility MOT for peace of mind. Where did you do the tests before and what was your experience like?

Sorry you experienced a loss - really tough to go through when you also have a toddler 🥺 the disappointment gets harder as time goes on, my best friend has just told me she’s pregnant after the first month of trying and my other best friend is 4 months (who also started trying after me). My daughter started school in August and I thought I’d have a newborn for that milestone so it’s difficult thinking she will probably be 6 by the time she has a sibling and much bigger age gap than I envisioned. I’m still so grateful to have her though. We are Glasgow based and had a good experience at the GCRM. It was a quick process and we basically were told to keep trying a bit longer as our health was 10/10, then sure enough we fell pregnant the next month. I’d say if you can afford to, might be worth getting done for peace of mind if you don’t want to wait until Nov. Where are you at with your cycle now? I’m away with work during my fertile week and have just about stopped crying at having to miss a month 😭😭

That must be so hard when you had the milestone in your head and it’s passed. I’m so so appreciative that I have my daughter but the age gap running away from you is so hard isn’t it.
Having to miss a cycle really sucks too. Is there any chance you can try before you go or does the timing not work at all?
I’ve done some basic testing and my husbands SA was good and I’ve done some hormone tests which were all fine. I just think my gut is telling me the loss or the stress is causing some issues with my cycle.
I’m on cycle day 1 and spent most of the day sobbing. Hope this cycle goes by quickly and you can try again soon!

Hi OP.
I would certainly recommend going private for fertility testing.
My first baby took 18 months to conceive so hoped 2nd time round will be sooner, but unfortunately we are deep in unexplained secondary infertility- been over 3.5 years now.
I did go via my GP and got all the relevant testing done, but in hindsight I should have just gone private and got it done sooner.
