Could I have conceived late in my cycle despite usually regular periods?

Hi all. I'm very confused about what's going on with my cycle this month and wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar..

I'm 38 and have a very regular 26/27 day cycle. My partner and I had unprotected sex on day 26 and, as my cycle is so regular and I believed my period was imminent, I thought there was basically no chance I could have got pregnant so I didn't think much of it.

I am now around 8 days late (with the unprotected sex taking place 8 days ago). I have taken a test this morning which was negative but obviously it could very well be too early to show if I was pregnant. I have a twingey/tuggy feeling in my lower abdomen and my nose feels very dry and congested which I know I had very earlier on in my previous pregnancies.

I am wondering if anyone has conceived super late in their cycle and if it looks possible that I have just ovulated much later than usual and this could be what's happening? I wasn't planning on another baby but would be more than happy to welcome another!

I got pregnant on day 23 of a 28 day cycle.. dp worked away so I am sure of that..period was 14 days late before i got a positive test.. .
Dd was born at 41 weeks.. they classed her as full term not overdue.

Thanks for replying! Yes I guess anything is possible isn't it... this is the only time we DTD since my last period as we've both been away from each other most of the month! Guess I'll just have to wait and see..
