Trying again after an early miscarriage – when did you start?

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar.

I had an early missed miscarriage (around 6–7 weeks) which completed naturally, and today my follow-up scan showed that everything has passed.

The midwife advised waiting for my first period before trying again, mainly because cycles can be irregular and it makes dating a pregnancy easier.

My partner and I would really like to try again as soon as we feel able, but at the same time I don’t want to do anything that might reduce the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

I think I’m just looking for a bit of reassurance. Did you wait for your next period or try straight away? Did you conceive before first period after a miscarriage?

I’m feeling a bit lost today. I’m grateful my body managed naturally, but I wasn’t prepared for how emotional I’d feel afterwards. 💔

Hey.

Sorry for your loss and I completely understand why you’d want to get trying again as soon as. I have waited each time for my first period purely because not knowing when I ovulated etc would just create more anxiety about whether I was/wasn’t pregnant. Hopefully your cycle will return to normal soon.

Sorry for your loss. I fell pregnant again pretty much straight away. My GP said I should have waited, but didn't really explain why.

I’m sorry for your loss. We were in the same situation and I started trying again the next cycle (basically when the bleeding stopped) as I felt OK about it and got pregnant! Now 24 weeks with that rainbow baby.

Pretty sure there’s recent evidence to suggest that if you’re ready, trying again can slightly boost your chances of conceiving because your body is “prepped”.

Thank you, I’m also sorry you have been through this. I can certainly understand waiting for period to reduce anxiety on timing, I used LH strips when I conceived, but know I’ll need to wait for hcg to be out of my system first before using them again.

Thank you, that’s given me hope that you got pregnant again quickly, but I’m sorry you went through a loss. Yep I got the feeling the reason was more to do with making it harder to date the pregnancy?

Oh congratulations on your rainbow baby! That’s definitely given me some hope! I’m still spotting so we will try again after it finishes, I’m also still feeling a bit tender.

That’s interesting about your body being more prepared - I hope that will be the case! Thank you for sharing and hope you are doing well.

I am So sorry for your loss 🌷
we had a MMC around 7 weeks , it was a horrible
ordeal. we waited for first period to try again. Had a chemical not long after as we didn’t really wait after that. Took another 18 months of trying and another MC. After that I had sort of given up, we then weren’t trying as such but 2 months after the last MC we conceived and got our beautiful boy ❤️
