Any ideas why I am not getting pregnant?

I unfortunately suffered a miscarriage (blighted ovum) late last year. Since then, I’ve had about 5 cycles where I’ve ovulated and confirmed with OPK and then BBT rise. Well timed intercourse every time normally two times within the fertile window - and always on the day before ovulation which I know carries the highest chance. I ovulate on around CD14.

I am tending to get a bit of light pink discharge or spotting from 9DPO. A couple of times I even thought that could be implantation bleeding but my period always comes a few days later. So seems I’m spotting early which I’m concerned about?

I’ve had blood tests which are normal. No issues with PCOS/endo etc. had scans of course due to the miscarriage and structurally nothing abnormal.

I know it’s only been 5 cycles but I feel so sad and gutted every month of disappointment. I have booked a fertility consult to discuss this further but any ideas?

Could my progesterone be low? (Spotting etc - but I got pregnant before?)
-Luteal defect? - but my full flow starts around 12DPO so technically not abnormal but I spot a few days before period.

just feel something is off since the miscarriage…. I don’t tend to get the same symptoms as before that after ovulation e.g sore breasts, not sure if that is normal.

(I’m early 30s by the way)

I just want to know if something is wrong and I’m running out of ideas :(

Unfortunately it can take time 💐 good luck with the fertility consultant. Hopefully nothing untoward, it can be easy to look for medical reasons.

Control the controllables- stop drinking, ensure healthy eating. If you're overweight try to lose some (not a dig, just personal experience). One caffeine a day. Try to be low stress. Regular sex every second day (We were advised this by the consultant) and good luck.

If you’re spotting at 9DPO this could indicate an issue with your progesterone being too low. Worth getting your levels checked as this can impact an embryo successfully implanting.

Sorry for the MC

If you are only having sex twice around the time you could get pregnant then you need to have Regular sex

Hi, thanks so much for for replying.
it turned out that I will be placed on progesterone this cycle. The consult was so helpful. They think there’s a luteal phase defect. My uterine lining was quite thin for the stage in cycle and other signs that progesterone is low or my lining not responding properly to it. Been recommended some extra supplement support too. I hope the progesterone makes a difference!

I had a gut feeling something wasn’t right since the MC and glad I got it checked. I’m waiting for bloods to come back too to see
if anything else. Just not sure why progesterone is lacking :( x

What’s your BMI? My friend struggled with similar, lost a load of weight and fell pregnant.

LuckyDuck93 · 30/04/2026 09:01

@EyeCleo I had the same problem with progesterone and uterine lining, I tried acupuncture and it really worked for me😊

Hi OP, your cycles sound similar to mine. No obvious alarms bells but just hasn’t happened yet. I also started spotting around 8DPO when trying to conceive which is new for me (hasn’t happened before when not trying to conceive) so I went to the GP and it’s cervical ectropion. The GP was able to examine me and diagnose this there and then. It’s a harmless condition, but explains the spotting. It could be worth you seeing the GP to put your mind at ease.

Ttc is a minefield.
I couldn't get pregnant for 18 years. Went through ivf for my first.
Tried for a year for #2 , still couldn't get pregnant.
Did an egg collection , was about to transfer the following month when I fell pregnant. I had a missed miscarriage. A few months later got pregnant again every cycle in a row for 3 months before one finally stuck and im now 12 weeks.
Seemingly went from being infertile to extremely fertile.

Wow thanks for sharing! Sometimes there doesn’t seem to be a science behind it at all and can switch up so unexpectedly. Congratulations on your pregnancy 😙

Hey thanks for sharing! Oooh, I think i actually have this condition as well, diagnosed from a colposcopy last year as I had an abnormal cervical screening (I have CIN 1 and HPV+).
got a repeat next week so let’s see! I wonder if this explained some of the spotting? The gynaecologist did suspect low progesterone too x
