How could I be pregnant so early in my cycle?! CD10!?!?!?

Just returning from EPAU!
My period started 18th March. Lasted 7 days full heavy flow as per usual. Finished on Tuesday 24th March. Spotting for a day. Thursday 26th CD9 DTD. Spotting started on Saturday night CD11 from pink watery and got progressively more to light bleed bright red. Thought something bad happened saw Dr on Tuesday 31st March CD14 urine teat for UTI and she had a feel on my belly. Said my uterus felt enlarged took history and then organised refferal for U/S and Blood work.

Later that day spoke to Mum. Good old Mum who said right away your pregnant. I said no way that's not how science work's. I do BBT for last 3 years. My cycles are always 29-34days long but average is 30days. My Ovulation is usually CD16-CD24 at the lateat but average CD17/18.
There is NO way on earth I ovulated and concieved on CD9! That's not normal for me unheard of. Scoffed laughed it off.

But she put the idea in my head and so at 11pm I said I will do a test for Sh*ts and Giggles whats the harm. I was peeing more often last 3 days and my uterus felt full and stretchy. And bam! positive and a not faint either!

How can this happen? The science is not sciencing! What on earth. I have 2 children. Both concieved normally and I knew my Ovulation day due to BBT 1st was CD24 the second was CD17.

Here is my March Chart and test results.

Been at EPAU and rhey thought I was crazy I had to show them the tests.

It's perfectly possible its a weird cycle or your cycles may have changed after your kids. How old is your youngest.

remember sperm can live for up to 5 days so may have been CD 14 you ovulated.

The other option is not pregnant. Did you use a cup? Any chance you used the same one when previously pregnant. even if washed out throughly can still give a positive.

But congrats!!

MixedBananas · 02/04/2026 13:53

@Bells3032 youngest is 19months old.
3 different tests on 3 different days. I wash the cup with soap and water and dry each time.
I am currently CD16...... So I would have had to have ovulated and concieve CD9? And get a first + on HPT CD14??? It doesn't add up.

I am not poaitive as I am having bleeding so EPAU took bloods and waiting for results. They will repeat if there are high levels of HCG.

Is it possible this is a pregnancy from the previous cycle? You can have a normal 'period' whilst pregnant so that doesn't rule it out.
Did you do an hpt at any time prior to 31st March? I can see you didn't record BBT throughout your cycle, so you can't use that to rule out the fact that you could be pregnant from the previous cycle (ie you can't prove a period of low temps indicating that there was a follicular phase).
It would explain the dark test line.

hahabahbag · 02/04/2026 14:52

I had 2 “normal” periods with dd1 and only missed by the 3rd, with dd2 I had what I thought was a heavy period 2 weeks late (i wasn’t regular due to just stopping breastfeeding) and we think was loosing a twin, 3 weeks later i actually took a test and it was positive

popcornandpotatoes · 02/04/2026 14:55

Could you be pregnant from before? I've no idea what all these acronyms mean but that seems like the most likely explanation

MixedBananas · 02/04/2026 15:22

Thank you all for your input.
I have attached my feb/march graph too.

It is possible. I think anything is at this point. Even I was thinking maybe previous cycle. But me and DH kinda avoided peak fertile days. I did do a Test on the 17th March as I had spotting on 16th and nothing until the 18th March when a full flow came on. But it was stark negative.
It could have been implantation bleeding on the 16th. But U/S (ultrasound) today at the EPAU (Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit) showed nothing. Only blood pooling in my cervix (causing the bleeding) and a thick endometrium and fluid behind the Uterus showing - ovulation/inflamation/ectopic they don't know.

Had you tested at all before then. So strange. Shows women are really not text book at all. And anything is possible.
Thank you for sharing.

My HCG just got back and they said it is 77 so will check on Saturday they expect it to double or more by then if viable.

I was travelling and couldn't be arsed to take my Thermometer with me I was spending time with family and just enjoying the company now I kinda regret it.

My HCG was 77 today they will check it again in 2 days. But yeah not high enough for a healthy 6 week pregnancy thats for sure. But would be for a 1 week pregnancy. My digital said 1 - 2 weeks aswell.

CrappyBottle · 02/04/2026 19:44

Yeah I would imagine with HCG of 77 you must be 3-4 weeks.

I don't know how to medically explain it or even understand how tbh but

I hadn't slept with my DC's father for months. We slept together once and 13 days later I got a positive pregnancy test ( DS is now 9 )

I couldn't believe it. I've never had such an early positive. I didn't even suspect I was pregnant, I just felt so unwell I just wanted to rule pregnancy out

Neurodiversitydoctor · 02/04/2026 19:50

I concieved DS on CD5 and Dd on CD 9 my cycles were 23/24 days when I still had periods ( So ovulated day 10 I guess).

Babyboomtastic · 02/04/2026 19:53

I had a two day period (usual for me, cycle length 30 days), had unprotected sex on CD3!! and then no more for the rest of the month (we changed our mind about TTC). In fact I was about 100 miles away from my husband for the entire 'fertile window'.

Period symptoms started the week before my period was due and I tested on the due date, by which point I was throwing up with morning sickness- dye stealer within seconds with a 3+ weeks the next day.

When I went for my 12w scan, timed on my last period, they put me a week further on, which fits with when I must have conceived.

Bodies are weird.

MixedBananas · 02/04/2026 20:13

A waiting game now I guess.
The bleeding has slowed down. Will check with a test tomorrow and see if it darkens or remains the same.

Wonder if anyone else had anything similar.

Wow thank you for sharing all these amazing stories.

Thats insane @Needmotivationnnnn 1 ti.e and bam!
@Neurodiversitydoctor i guess with shorter cycles that is normal. For me normal os 29-34 days average 30. So this is reaaaaaly early. I guess nothing is impossible.

@Babyboomtastic oh ny CD3! How on earth. Did you have any fertike signs then or even when you expected? So strange wow. Thats a story you should tell everyone.

After 7 full days of bleeding i would brace yourself for bad news. It seems the most likely situation is that you did get pregnant, and have had, or are having still, a miscarriage or possibly ectopic pregnancy.

This is exactly what happened with my first ectopic. I had a heavy period like bleed for days and then tested positive a week after the bleed. I knew it was far too early, and it was ectopic.

It's perfectly possible to conceive CD9, BUT that would mean you had your first positive 5dpo and that isn't possible.

Sorry for the pessimistic message, but having lived through this it was bad news.

Plumchumm · 02/04/2026 22:51

You definitely didn't ovulate CD9. It takes 6 days minimum after egg is fertilised for it to get to the uterus and implant. Then a further few days for that to be detectable on a test. So you would have been pregnant at least a week by the time you found out. Some people get a normal period even while pregnant, it is not too uncommon.

MixedBananas · 03/04/2026 00:11

@MocktailMe no worries. i have had 3 chemicals and so I feel less upset about it. Just more confused and not inderstanding logistics. As soon as I got the positive I already decided it was not viable as the period and then bleeding again.

Positives from this I finally got a detailed scan and bloodwork. And I know mybiterus is healthy and no fibroids and no growths. The linen, and ovaries look healthy. So God willing it will happen next time. Just have to get through whatever this is. Either way viable pregnancy or not.

Edited

I know scientifically makes no sense. Thats why I initially said it must be from last cycle.

I'm old so don't understand the abbreviations, didn't have ovulation tests in my day but I know for a fact my last son was conceived 8 days after my period had started, so I had only just finished my 7 day period and my cycle was usually 30/31 days but could be longer. I knew i was pregnant (go off coffee/nauseous) a full 10 days before my next period was due ............bodies can catch you out!

Unless you conceived the previous cycle?

MixedBananas · 03/04/2026 20:53

@Mossstitch did you have any bleeding? It seems more peoplw have gone theough very odd conceptions.

Today bleeding has been on and off brown then bright red and the test is no darker stayed the same which is odd 🧐
No pain at all. But also 0 pregnancy symptoms now. Bloating and that's it.
Have HCG test tomorrow morning to repeat.

I fell pregnant days after my period ended, but it was my first period after a miscarriage so I assume my cycle wasn't normal. I tested positive something ridiculous like 10 days after my period. I had a couple of episodes of bleeding through the pregnancy but have a healthy toddler now. Like I said, my cycle was probably a bit messed up at the time but it's definitely possible.

Mossstitch · 03/04/2026 22:39

@MixedBananas no, no bleeding but did have some spotting /brownish discharge with first pregnancy a week after period would have been due which in hindsight was probably conceived at a similar stage in cycle. Hope everything ok for you 💐

OliveGrovez · 04/04/2026 14:16

Yes, you could be pregnant. I now have a daughter in her mid 30s conceived on day 9 of my normal 30 day cycle.

springdaffodils26 · 04/04/2026 15:27

Be wary could be an ectopic pregnancy.
