I had my mirena coil out around 5 weeks ago as we are trying for a baby. I had withdrawal bleeding but no period until today. I have started using ovulation sticks which showed it was the start of my fertile week. I don’t understand how it has picked up those hormones and then I’ve got my period the next day.

Anyone have any ideas?

Which type of ovulation tests were you using? Was it the digital ones with the flashing smiley face?

Yes it was!

Those tests work by detecting a rise in estrogen. I’m guessing because your hormones are still getting back to normal it might have detected an unusual rise? You can get a rise is estrogen a few days before your period I think as well.
I think as a one off I’d just ignore it and hope that now you’ve had a proper period things will settle down.

I used those digital tests for ages but after a while I moved on to using cheap test strips from amazon and I actually found them better personally. (And much cheaper!!) I found I was getting the flashing smiley face for over a week at times before getting my peak.

Thank you, that makes sense. Has been hard trying to work out when everything has been happening!
