Shorter periods after having children? Fertility?

My DS is 4.5 years old. We are currently TTC baby number 2. I went straight back on the pill after having my son and about a year ago now I came off it. Since then, my cycles have adjusted and are now pretty regular but I’ve noticed my periods are a lot lighter than they used to be before having a baby. My periods are around 2 days long followed by a couple of days of spotting.

Has anyone else experienced shorter periods since having children? Did it affect your fertility to have more?

Your age is more likely to be a factor, mine shortened after 40

How old are you? Shorter periods can be a sign of peri, and that could mean that it will be harder for you to conceive.

How long have you been TTC? If over 35 and trying for longer than 6 months, then I would look into potential fertility treatments.

Mine shortened too and got lighter. Both after 10 years on the pill and following both births.

Went to the Dr about it as was worried about fertility and she wasn't concerned at all
She said 'lucky you'!!.

I had read something about it indicating a thinning of the womb but apparently it not related. I conceived the same month I visited the Dr......

Mine got heavier but less painful, and shorter after my first child. I conceived my second child pretty much straight away when we started trying, so didn't affect my fertility. Now after my second they've stayed a bit heavier and gone back to being a day or two longer again.

I had the same. Before having kids my periods were extremely heavy and painful. I've had 3 children and after each one they've gotten shorter, lighter and less painful. And I was 19, 21 and 22 when I had kids. First was unplanned, second I got pregnant the first month, and third was maybe the third month? (I was not tracking ovulation).

Now pregnant with #4 (due when I'll be 27) and again it took about 3 months but I wasn't tracking ovulation - the month I got pregnant we had sex 2 times a week apart cause of illness. Before getting pregnant with #4 my periods were 2 days of bleeding and 2 sometimes 3 days of spotting, not heavy or very painful at all.

Yes, lighter and not painful since having a child. I used to be VERY ill... fainting multiple times during my period days, vomiting and diarrhea. My mother was actually the same when she was young and she always said, it'll change after you have a baby and it did!

Mine did too. Shorter and lighter. We struggled to get pregnant a 2nd time. Starting low dose naltroxene / LDN helped us.

in hindsight it was the start of perimenopause. And a huge rollercoaster.

our miracle baby is now 10 and I rarely have a period at all now. And if I blinked I’d miss it.

so if you want another baby don’t leave it to chance. Be focused. See a fertility specialist sooner rather than later.

Best of luck.
