TTC baby number 2

Here we go again, husband and I are trying for baby number 2. First time around it took us 9 months which in the grand scheme of things isn’t that long but it was a hellish 9 months of heartache. I know people try for a lot longer, years even or have to go down the IVF route but we as a couple found it really hard. Second month trying and I honestly don’t know if I can go through this again, we are so so blessed with a beautiful child already but I am longing for a second child. This month I experienced a symptom that I had when I was pregnant first time round and convinced myself it was happening again but quicker for us. I absolutely love being pregnant and being a mum but TTC is not for the weak. Took a test today and it was negative (not due on for another 6 days) and I’m so disheartened that it will take just as long again and month after month the disappointment takes its toll

First time round, I started a feed and found it so helpful, I even went back to share our positive news to help others in the same boat so hoping someone can share their experiences on baby number 2 conception

@TTCno1in23 I am in a similar position to you. AF arrived today which now takes us into month 11 of TTC. I’m feeling really negative today, especially as this cycle it just felt as though we did everything right. I did tell the GP a little white lie a few months back and said that we had been trying for a year when it was obviously a bit shorter than this. I am glad that I did now as the tests have taken a while to complete and earlier this week we have been referred to the fertility clinic for further testing. We have a son too who is almost 5 and I am toying with the idea of getting additional tests privately because I don’t know how long we’re going to be waiting for the next app. As you say, we won’t get any funding support via NHS either so not sure what to do at the moment! I know what you mean about other pregnancies too, everyone seems to either be pregnant or having their baby’s at the moment and it is triggering! x

Roll on the end of the month. That's when I'm going to remove my patch and hope for the best. They say that it can take a while to have a period but fertility can come back straight anyway so I'll be testing with opks and temperature and see how we go 🥰

@sunshinecitrus1 what tests have you had? They did some random bloods for me which showed a dodgy prolactin result but then when they retested it was fine, and I’ve also had day 21 bloods done twice as the first time I hadn’t even ovulated that month - but when I rang to discuss them they just said it’s normal and didn’t really offer any other advice or a referral! My husband has a sperm analysis booked in but really no idea where to go from there. Also tempted to go private but no clue where to start!!

@TheUniqueMember good luck! Lots of my friends have been super lucky and fallen pregnant really fast second time round so hopefully it happens like that for you too!

@TTCno1in23 I’ve had Day 21 bloods and a transvaginal ultrasound. I had the ultrasound a while back though as I experienced a lot of pain when I first came off the pill to start TTC so they were checking my ovaries. My partner has had his sperm analysis done. So far all of our results have been “normal”. I had a call with my doctor on Monday to discuss all of the results (including partners) and she has now referred us to the fertility clinic. I first contacted the doctor in March, it has taken until now to get to this point and not much really done in the grand scheme of things! Myself and partner have discussed that we are going to try for another couple of months as we have been… Our son is due to have an operation in the next couple of weeks so it is sensible for us to focus on that for now. After two months, I will contact the fertility clinic if I haven’t heard from them to see how much longer and if too long, I’m going to look into further testing privately. Like you, I’m not sure where to start but going to try and do a bit of research between now and then!

Your GP may be waiting for your husbands results to come back before referring you so that they have the overall picture before doing so. My advice once you have your husbands results is to try and get another GP appointment to discuss further now your husbands results are back and then request a referral to the fertility clinic. At least then you are on the waiting list for further testing via NHS whilst you figure out if you want to go private x

We’ve just started cycle 9 ttc number 2. Daughter was concieved first month trying and so was my pregnancy last year which was a MMC.
ive had a short ish luteal phase which I’ve worked with an acupuncturist the last few months and lengthened it from 10 - 12/13 days but still no BFP.
we’ve done basic testing ourselves and everything fine - thyroid, day 3 tests, semen analysis. Might do progesterone this month even though my longer luteal phases suggest it’s fine
I’m just struggling to stay positive. I know it can take a year but it hurts so much to be still on this rollercoaster.

@Hopefulbutexhausted We conceived our son the first month of trying also. It’s the start of Month 11 for us TTC baby number 2 now and now I realise how lucky we were when we conceived our son so fast. This is such an emotional journey and it just feels like we’re going round in circles. I’m trying to stay positive also but the more cycles we go through, the harder it feels to me mentally. Just really want something to give soon x
