Curious really to hear from other ladies who had first aged mid-late 30's when were you ready to have 2nd or did you stick with one and done? I am leaning towards trying for another but also not ready. Juggling life & work with a 1 year old feels hectic.
There are benefits I see to having one child. It certains makes juggling life more manageable but also feel shame not to experience having another baby and I know others out there with two do manage.

Daughter is aged 15 months and I turn 37 this year. I will be honest I would prefer to consider pontentially ttc when daughter is aged 2.5 and I will them be nearly 38 but do worry that is wasting time..

I had my first at 37 and started trying when she turned 2 and got pregnant the first try, I'm now 40 and 36w. Fairly easy pregnancy but I appreciate I've been very lucky!

My daughter was 19 months when we TTC number 2. After 3 years of trying for her we thought it may take a while. It took 2 months and my son was born when she was just under 2.5 years. I was 37. The age gap is brilliant.

Ah interesting. I had considered 2.5 year age gap as mininum but heard mixed things. Heard about regressions, jealousy with toddler etc but guess depends on the child.

We have loved the fact that they’re both into the same things, they can do some clubs together, same bedtimes. At the minute they are very close. Like you say, depends on the kids though.

When did you ttc for 2nd? Was larger age gap a preference?

A bit older - first at 41 and started trying for second when he was about seven months old, I got pregnant month four and so 20 months apart. He was a summer baby and I wanted the next one in the spring so they wouldn’t be one of the youngest in the year. Worked out well.

VioIetMoon · 26/01/2026 00:28

I had my first at 38.
We tried pretty much straight away. We've had two pregnancies inside the past 4 months but unfortunately both miscarriages

Sa11yCinnamon · 26/01/2026 10:13

I had my son aged 39, he's almost 20 months and we're planning to start trying again next month which would give a 2.5 year age gap. I would have liked to try again sooner but my partner wasn't ready (and really neither was I, I'm just very wary that time isn't on our side!)

NewYearVibes · 26/01/2026 10:14

I had my first at 36 and my second at 39 (one month before I turned 40). I waited 2 years. But it took me a while to get pregnant second time, with a few loses. I think if you feel ready, don't delay in your late 30s.

LeeshaPaper · 26/01/2026 10:17

There's a 4 y and a few months age gap between my DC. MC in between. Would have liked a 3rd but had another mc after DC2.
So I would recommend not waiting to TTC.

Edited to say, DC1 born when I was 36, DC2 born when I was 40

I had my DS when I was 29 and now TTC our second at age 33 almost 34. So 4 / 5 year gap. My advice would be don’t delay if you feel the time is right. We conceived pretty much with our DS but we’re currently on Month 6 of TTC our second and no sign of a positive test yet. X
