Help figuring out ovulation after miscarriage. How soon after bleeding stops can you ovulate?

I had a miscarriage July 23rd. I was 10 weeks but baby’s heartbeat stopped at about 6w3d. At my first ultrasound after the miscarriage it showed that it was incomplete and that I had some retained products. I took medication twice which didn’t work. I was expecting to have to have surgery but 4 weeks after the miscarriage had started I passed the tissue myself. I had bled for the first 2 weeks or so, had a week of no bleeding and then it started again when I passed the remaining tissue. Everything seems to have settled now but I have no idea how to figure out when my period should come back. I’ve seen people count cycle day 1 as the first day of their miscarriage but when mine was so long until it was complete and I had retained products I’m not sure whether to count from July 23rd or from when the bleeding started the second time? My hcg was 28 nearly two weeks ago so I assume it’s been down to 0 for a while now. I had some ewcm the last two days but my ovulation tests are all negative. Could I be due to ovulate soon even though I only stopped bleeding about 5 days ago? At my last ultrasound on Friday the doctor mentioned he could see follicles on both ovaries, would that indicate ovulation would be due to happen soon?

I would use LH tests to determine the greatest likelihood of ovulation as naturally cycles can be unpredictable, even outside of a miscarriage.

Sorry for your loss @JasmineBloom.
I had a loss at 9 weeks in June that happened with expectant management. I bled for 4 weeks. The final day of bleeding my hcg tests were negative and I had tracked my ovulation tests and these had also gone negative (the OPKs can show positive whilst you have residual hcg).
2 days later I had a static smiley on clear blue and a positive ovulation strip.
That cycle was weird for me as I had positive ovulation tests for 3 days so I am not certain if I did ovulate, but my body was clearly trying to do something so I would say if the ultrasound showed a follicle it could mean ovulation is near. Good luck!

@Catmum92 thank you so much for your reply and so sorry you went through this too. I’ve been having a lot of ewcm but no positive ovulation test yet anyway so wondering if maybe my body is trying to ovulate but maybe won’t this cycle. Hopefully after I get my first period everything will settle back to normal. It’s just hard not knowing where I am in my cycle and then the worry if it means somethings wrong if I don’t ovulate.

@JasmineBloom totally with you on the uncertainty and worry around ovulating - keep testing with the ovulation sticks and perhaps a positive will come in the next day or so.
This whole ttc post loss journey has been very humbling as someone who likes to be in control and thought they knew what to expect and when from their cycle. I’m trying to take each sign of my body returning to normal as a positive step. I think you’re doing everything you can being on the ball and tracking where possible. Fingers crossed for you x
