My friend has just had a baby last week, I was her birthing partner which was incredible.
This has triggered extremely intense baby fever for myself and my partner!
We have been ttc for a while now, as in having unprotected sex, but we haven’t ever used any other supplementary methods.
I am going to buy ovulation test strips asap, but other than that, what is our best course of action?

(I know it is never guaranteed, the title is a bit of a joke! I’d just really like some tips)

I got pregnant on three of the four cycles I targeted using the easy at home ovulation strips and the free premom app. This led to two babies and a miscarriage, so a pretty good return rate! All you can really do is have sex at the right time of the month (a lot of people think they are, but aren't, which is why the tests are so handy), and stop drinking at least during your luteal phase as it reduces the chance of a fertilised egg implanting.
Also what an incredible experience! ❤️

Have sex every other day after your period has ended or specifically track ovulation and have sex a few times the days prior. Antioxidant supplement for your partner and prenatal for you.

Start tracking your cycle on an app like Flo and use the ovulation test strips with it. This worked for me.

How long did it take you?

Thank you! I drink maybe 3/4x a year so hopefully that won’t be an issue.

It was amazing, it was a little intense and traumatic a couple of times but it was just beautiful. We are still in together now as she’s still being monitored, I’ve had some more baby cuddles and gave her some bottle, it’s just intensifying my feelings!!

It’s a very long time ago now, but when I didn’t get pregnant the first month I TTC, I made my DH do it every day the next month (he didn’t mind too much!) and lo, the magic happened.

How long did it take you?

First baby, first month. Second baby, third month. Good luck!

How long did it take you?

First baby, first month of trying. Second pregnancy, also first month of trying. Third was the second month.

I was in the same boat as you, having unprotected sex for about 7 months but nothing was happening. This month I did the premom ovulation strips (I wasn't ovulating when my period app thought!) and I also used fertility friendly lube. Just got my first positive!

I spoke to my GP and she also recommended having regular sex throughout my entire cycle, so at least 3 x a week.

All the best of luck to you!

Babyfeverugh · 12/08/2025 09:22

Do we need the fertility friendly lube if we don’t usually use any lube? Does it help extra with conceiving, or is it just to use instead of usual lube, if we were already using it?

@Babyfeverugh I think it's individual, if you don't use it I say you'd be fine! A lot of regular lubes aren't fertility friendly though, so if TTC I would look into fertility friendly brands

That’s amazing that you helped at the birth! Intense experience.

Get married if you’re not already, unless you’re personally very wealthy and plan to continue working FT!

Ovulation sticks! Conceived first month using these both times.

Other than that, take folic acid, vitamin D and I had sunflower seeds and beetroot post ovulation to boost progesterone.

We didn’t give up alcohol or caffiene or anything like that, just cut down and carried on living our lives!

Agree with the PPs - ovulation sticks. I used the clearblue ones with the smiley face and conceived first month of trying. That being said, I do think a lot of it is down to "luck" and no underlying issues. Good luck!

MissyPants · 12/08/2025 10:34

Flo app, and it's very accurate, I had positive results from that. Not the paid version, the free one.

Babyfeverugh · 13/08/2025 12:01

I’m going to try and get round to buying the tests today, if I can go through town!
I live in a little village currently so can be a bit hard to get out to the shops in the town over unless it’s shopping day!
