Faint Positive or Faulty Test?

Hi Mumsnet World,

I've never done anything like this before but I feel like I'm going a little crazy, have no one to speak to about this and would just like to say it "out loud" and maybe get some opinions.

I have taken some OneStep Amazon pregnancy tests (10ml ones) and below are pics from 12dpo AM (plus negative colours), 12dpo PM and this eve 13dpo. All pics were taken after about 4 mins and looked the same within the 3 min window. The first couple I was sure I was willing myself to see something that wasn't there so looked at a few online threads and read about evaporation lines/early faint lines/dodgy tests etc. I wanted to wait until tomorrow morning but really needed to pee then thought sod it. I feel like I can see a faint line still and it has a pink hue.

I then read some negative reviews and some heartbreaking false positive stories about the Amazon OneStep tests which is what I've used. So then I whipped put another test to see if my bathroom tap is with child - figured if that was faint it was dud tests and I could try and accept it's not happening for me - but the last pic I feel it is clear the tap is deffo not expecting, so I'm back to wondering if I actually am!

I guess I'd just like to share this experience and see if anyone else is going/has gone through this.

At the risk of rambling - just a bit of background - I have PCOS and I'm nearly 40 with no kids. Pregnancy wasn't in the cards for me and my ex (for about 8 years). I'm not currently trying but I have always had a fear it would just never happen for me despite wanting to be a parent so this is a horrible crazy rollercoaster that I feel I'm on alone. I've had some cramps the past week or so, tender nips on and off, and have been stuffing my face non-stop the past week but I think that's more stress! I know I've tested early (miscounted initially and got my weeks wrong) and I will test again soon (trying really hard to leave it a few days)... but yeah, just hoping sharing this helps somehow.

Oh, also heard negative things about blue dye tests, clear blue, and digital tests - not sure what is left to go with! Any recommendations?

Honestly seeing the pics up there now I feel like it looks like I'm seeing things but in real life they seem darker/pinker. But it's mainly the me vs tap one that is gettin to me 😅

A line like that on my test is currently sitting my left complaining about my movie choice!

Don't go for a digital test yet - they need a stronger concentration of hormones to get a result. I used both clear blue and first response (I bought them ALL) and both gave the same positive result, although first response lines were darker sooner as they are more sensitive.

The last photo looks like a strong positive I’d say 👍🏻 I’m not a fan of those tests because of how weak they are. When I got a 1-2 weeks on a digital, I could barely see it on the One Step brand, and the OV tests were rubbish for me. So 🤞🏻 you’ve got a sticky one there!

They look positive to me

I would test with a more reliable brand (best was first response when I was trying, don’t know what it is now) but they look positive to me. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone for replying and sharing, definitely helps talking about it with people!

Despite telling myself I'm gonna wait 48 hours til I test again I keep talking myself into checking cus I'm like "well I'm not trusting these tests and I have like 10 left, and if it really is positive I potentially won't need em in a while" ...basically talking myself into not waiting!

Anyway, tested again this morn and I feel like this one is a lot harder for me to deny 😬

I have a 1st response coming tonight which I'll take in the morning then a clear blue coming the day after.

Hoping if one of them are positive I'll truly accept 😅

This looks exactly like my tests I have been testing since Saturday and although the lines are progressing they are just not great. These tests have caused more stress than anything else. That last one is most definitely undeniable.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 06/08/2025 08:04

I don't know how to add a photo but this is the exact same positive I got with my 3rd. He's now firmly latched onto me feeding - congratulations op!

It's super stressful! I know a big part of my stress has been that I tested quite early, so it's understable it's been faint but then you just think you're seeing things which isn't great. Then I went down the online rabbit hole and a lot of people were having issues with these tests and evaporation lines on the clear blue etc.
Hopefully if your'e seeing progression that's a good sign!

Okay I'll shut up now....

But seriously thanks for your lovely support and kind words. I'm hoping to be able to keep this to myself for a little while and it's meant a lot to be able to have this lil online chat before I exploded 😂

Now to no doubt obsess over next steps! 😅
