Are any anti depressants safe when ttc?

I’m feeling desperate and think I need AD. I may go to the GP but not sure if it’s worth it if there aren’t any ttc/pregnancy safe AD?

I had a TFMR recently and am just heartbroken and devastated, I need to ttc again asap (this was a pregnancy we waited a very long time for and I don’t have age on my side) but I’m also so unhappy and feel that AD might lift my mood or help me cope a bit better?

Does anyone know of any that are ok to take ?

I was fine taking citalopram throughout my pregnancy

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I’ve not heard that any of the more commonly prescribed ones shouldn’t be taken during pregnancy. I actually had my doses of citalopram and amitriptyline increased during my last pregnancy 11 years ago. I’ve been on that dose ever since.

It’s never someone’s fault they need some help from AD. Mine help me in the same way my multivitamins help, or my thyroid meds.

Thankyou , that’s helpful I’ve just been worried that if I start taking any type it may affect my ability to conceive and it was a battle to anyway 😭 But equally I can’t carry on feeling how I am it’s like every day I’m having to drag myself through each minute which feels like hours and then over and over something small and unrelated will make me just burst into tears and I feel like I need some kind of medication to calm me down/ slow down thoughts / make me a bit less sensitive to triggers

I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through. I also had a TFMR back in March and a few physical complications after with retained tissue and the whole thing messed up my mental health. I started Sertraline 50mg a few weeks ago and already feeling a bit better, the GP said it’s the antidepressant of choice for ttc/pregnancy as it’s the one they have the most data on its safety.

I’m sorry you have gone through this too. I’m going to ask the GP for this i think as I’m literally falling apart multiple times a day

I hope you can feel a lot better. Remember it can take time for them to sork, things can feel worse before they feel better, and there can be a process to find out what suits you best at what dose. Mine only work in combination with each other for example. One alone doesn’t work.

Have you had any counselling? I would definitely recommend that, even if just alongside medication. It takes time to process a trauma or something really difficult. I had a bereavement last year and just finished a year of counselling which helped so much xx
