Just trying to get an idea of what the typical range is.

2.5. I fell pregnant within a couple of months and would have been due on 12.7.25 but unfortunately we lost that baby to an early miscarriage in November. Been trying again since January and no luck yet

Booklovingmummy · 14/07/2025 11:41

18 months

onawave · 14/07/2025 11:43

Eldest was 5 months when youngest was conceived. There’s 13 months between them.

flowersandfoil · 14/07/2025 11:43

1yr 2months

Choppedcoriander · 14/07/2025 12:00

Wow you were keen! I definitely didn’t want it to this soon.

I was an older mum so was time conscious. It took a long time and Ivf for our 2nd

16 lol. I've wanted another child for years but didn't meet the right person until a few years ago.

Just started TTC, if we'd met when I was a little younger I would have probably left if about another year but time isn't on my side anymore and I'm already showing symptoms of peri-menopause.

Totally fair in that case.

18 months and then took 18 months to conceive so we actually ended up with an almost 4 year gap but it worked out for the best. I suspected we'd have issues though! If I'd conceived my first quickly I'd have waited as didn't want a small gap.

Beansandcheesearegood · 14/07/2025 12:14

18 months. Thought it would take a few months
... didn't even have period!

BumpyaDaisyevna · 14/07/2025 13:38

18 mths. She was 2.4 when he was born.

xWildFlowerx · 14/07/2025 13:45

I got pregnant when first was 5 months old. Wasn't tracking etc, just not preventing, but didn't think it would happen so quickly as I was EBF and hadn't had a period yet after birth.

Lampzade · 14/07/2025 13:49

7 months
They are nineteen months apart

overwork · 14/07/2025 13:56

Mine is just about to turn 2 and we’re ready to try for a second. My periods didn’t come back until he was 16 months and we loosely tried that month but I was relieved I didn’t get pregnant, so we’ve waited a while longer. I’m over 40 though, so we’ve had to be comfortable with the idea we might only have the one.

StrawberryCranberry · 14/07/2025 13:58

12 months, and it happened quickly so the age gap is 22 months.

SummerSun24 · 14/07/2025 18:35

14 months , happened quite quickly for us so there's just over 2 years between them and I love it!

I do think any age gap has its pros and cons though and you'll learn to love what you have 😊

DemonsandMosquitoes · 14/07/2025 20:06

20 months. Fell pregnant first time. 2.5 year age gap, 22 years on has been absolutely perfect.

putthekettleonn · 14/07/2025 22:33

There is no typical; every family and every woman will have different financial, emotional, and physical circumstances, and it's a very personal choice depending on the needs of the first child.

I was an older mum so did IVF with the plan to bank enough embryos to allow for at least a 3 year gap between pregnancies without having to force it too soon due to age, with the idea to transfer sooner if everything was going really well.

Mainly I’m wondering when the irritating questions are likely to start.

DC1 was 2 when we started trying for DC2. It turned out to be a 7 yr age gap (which has actually worked out really well).

havanesehope · 14/07/2025 23:46

17 months.

scaredfriend · 15/07/2025 08:48

Exactly one year old. It worked. There’s 21 months between them.

BrutalOutHere · 15/07/2025 08:51

Don't be pressured into anything by social expectation. No one should ever ask when/ if you are going to have more children. Do what's best for you and your family and it looks different for everyone. And you can't always plan these things!
