What would you do in my situation? TTC after a sabbatical.

My husband (33) and I (32) are looking to conceive after we return from a sabbatical later this year. I have been on the Nexplanon implant for circa 9 years (on my third at the moment) and we are starting to think about next steps. My current plan is to keep the implant in over our time away (don’t rock the boat etc) and have it removed as soon as we return so we can get going.

I keep having niggling feelings about struggling to get an implant removal appointment (they tend to book out quickly and are at least a couple of weeks out in my area). I am also aware that my cycle may need time to get back to normal. So I have been considering whether to have the implant out before we go away and rely non-hormonal contraception during our time (so I don’t risk getting pregnant on the road!).

I am torn here as I don’t want to risk my hormones being all over the place when travelling but I also am conscious of the potential risks of waiting until I am back to take next steps (I.e a delay in getting removal and taking time to regroup cycle-wise).

We are not desperate to conceive IMMEDIATELY after returning (although it would avoid a potential Xmas baby if that was the case haha) I just worry about it potentially taking some time and wanting to do what I can to pre-empt that I guess…

Everybody is different so this is part request for advice / part vent, and grateful to hear what you would do in my situation!

I had the contraceptive implant in for 11 years consistently and feel pregnant in the second month of having it out and I am the same age. It’s hard to get an appointment in my area too but I kept checking for cancellations and got one within about two weeks 😊
