Unprotected sex CD7, anyone conceived from DTD once that early?

Hi All

We have two children already, youngest is 15 months. We’ve talked about having a third so wouldn’t be completely out of the blue but we always use condoms. For the first time in over 10 years (apart from trying to get pregnant) we didn’t use one on CD7 I’d just finished my period and thought it wouldn’t be possible with an average 29 day cycle but wanted to hear from anyone where it has happened? Thanks for reading.

definitely possible, sperms lives for a few days

PetrovaRabbit · 22/04/2025 09:14

Yes. And in a super stressful month where I wouldn’t have been surprised if my cycle had been lengthened/delayed (I often have longer cycles when I’m stressed). If you’re still within the time frame and you don’t want to be pregnant I would ask for the morning after pill.

Pumpkin80 · 22/04/2025 09:20

Thanks both. We actively tried for a long time for our second so I thought all of the times and months and it didn’t happen. Doing it once early on in my cycle which can be 28days or 35days (av.29 days) it feels like the chances are very low. If I was, this baby would be so loved and wanted and it would feel like it was meant to be but if I wasn’t that would be ok too. I’m just trying to mentally prepare myself a little.

@PetrovaRabbit was your average cycle short when you weren’t stressed?

OP posts:
PetrovaRabbit · 22/04/2025 09:33

No. Usually 28-31 days. I’ve never been able to predict my period to within a day.

anicecuppateaa · 22/04/2025 09:36

Yes. Conceived on day 8 here, after having unprotected sex once. Thought it would be fine….

Pumpkin80 · 22/04/2025 09:45

@anicecuppateaa do you usually have short cycles? I’d literally just finished my period and always thought it was super rare to get pregnant on/just after your period. I know sperm can live for up to 5 days but if I usually ovulate on day 15/16 it couldn’t still be ‘alive’ from CD7? I’m 36 and still find all this so difficult to understand! 😩

A bit of a mix. I’d had a 35 day cycle and then a 25 day cycle, before this, but when regular usually 28 days and ovulate around day 12. I thought the chances were very low but here we are….!

Pumpkin80 · 22/04/2025 09:59

@anicecuppateaa that sounds like my cycle. I just thought as well given my age and the fact it took so long to get pregnant with our second I thought there was very little chance but clearly it happens a lot. This would kind of be our last chance I think any way as we have talked about a third but I worry about finances, splitting ourselves between three etc.

I conceived DD2 on the last day of my first period after DD1 was born so about day 5 or 6. I think I ovulated fairly early as standard, for each child (I have 3DC) my due date was brought forward by a week after my dating scan.

ETA: I was 38.

PurpleChrayn · 22/04/2025 10:08

Happened to me! DH and I were long distance at the time, and I figured that it would be too early to conceive when we met up that month. It was not too early! DD was conceived.

Pumpkin80 · 22/04/2025 10:51

Wow I can’t believe it’s so common. I guess I will have to keep you posted. I think this probably would be our only time as I don’t want to get stuck in that obsessing over it like I did with our first two. I’ve very grateful for our children and if it happened I feel it was meant to be and if not then I think my husband will have the snip next year.

Hi all

me again, just wondered for those who were pregnant when did get your BFP? I’m guessing it was early? I don’t know whether I should take a test of just wait for AF. My cycle varies from month to month so not sure what to do. Any advice? Don’t even know if it would be too early to test 🫣

I was 35. I DTD CD8. Currently 27 weeks pregnant!

Pumpkin80 · 05/05/2025 20:29

@Lulu89x congratulations! When did you get your BFP? Did you have a short cycle? Wondering if should I test tomorrow or just wait and see

My cycles are very short yes - on average about 26 days. I tested at 10DPO and I had a clear positive test! Unless you have serious symptoms that you cannot ignore, give it a few days.

I had non stop cramping from 1-10DPO and very very sore boobs/nipples. That’s what forced me to test, almost week before my period was even due!

Pumpkin80 · 05/05/2025 21:07

@Lulu89x im going to wait it out. I don’t think I am, as I think I ovulated recently so it wouldn’t be possible then to have conceived from CD7. My cycle are average 29 days so going to leave it another week and then see.

Good idea. That would be my suggestion, just wait. Too often we see 2948478284844 threads on here asking for opinions on extremely faint tests, the stress and anxiety etc that comes with it.

Just wait it out until after you’ve missed your period to test if you can.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you 🥰
