"Milk" secretions - early pg symptom? Or am I going mad?

I'm 8dpo and today my boobs suddenly felt a small twinge, very like the let down feeling you get when you're breastfeeding. I squeezed and a tiny drop of milk (or colostrum?) came out. I haven't bf for 8 months, and a few months ago when I squeezed them to see if there was any more milk, there wasn't.

Could this be an early pregnancy sign? (Or am I symptom spotting just a bit too much ?) Has anyone else ever had this before htey found out they were pg?

I can still squeeze drops out a year after stopping bf. Sorry! Will keep fingers crossed for you tho.

I had this one month while TTC (8 months after stopping BF). I was convinced it was a symptom but I am afraid it was not and I got a BFN.

On a brighter note I did get a BFP the next month - but with no breast symptoms (and I still don't have any at 10 weeks)

artichokes - did you get the let-down feeling too?

artichokes · 15/05/2008 13:42

Yes it felt just like the let-down reflex and I even wondered if my boobs might start spurting milk like they did in the old days. It was really odd, I really thought I must be pregnant as I have never had anything like it since stopping BF.

fiodyl · 15/05/2008 13:46

Hmmm Ive had this recently too and wondered if I was pregnant again. I havent BF for over a year also and have a contraceptive implant for nearly a year and only 1 period in that time so think its unlikely

Oh boo-hoo. Sounds like it's pretty normal then. Was hoping it was a sign. Never mind - back to plain old waiting then, instead of symptom spotting

I would actually have a blood test done by your GP to see what your hormone levels are like as you may have excess prolactin levels. This can and does effect ovulation so I unfortunately do not think you are actually 8 days post ovulation.

I have been temping, and Fertility Friend seems to think I ovulated. There is a marked temperature shift on my chart, and I felt ovulation pains, had EWCM at the right times, noticed cervical position changes that usually go along with ov too, so I'm certain I have ovulated.

I dripped the odd bit of milk for a few months after stopping bfing.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/05/2008 14:03

Hi,

FF can get it wrong I am sorry to say. I would also point out that it is quite possible to have a temp rise in the second half of your cycle when an egg has not been shed. This is why charting in itself is not infallible a method.

If you continue to have milky secretions I would consider having a blood test done. This would be far more reliable an indicator. BTW if excess prolactin was in your bloodstream it can be treated with tablets.

I appreciate that you can leak after stopping bf, but ds self-weaned, at nearly four years old, and had only been feeding about once a day for a month or two before stopping. It was such a gradual cut-down that after he had completely weaned, I didn't leak any milk at all. And a few months ago, when I was curious as to whether I could still get any milk out, I tried to squeeze some out and couldn't. Hence why it seems that it could have been a pg symptom. Although the experiences of GordontheGopher and artichokes show me that it's probably just normal.

I started leaking milk in the shower then 4 weeks later found out I was (7 weeks)pregnant with ds.

I hadn't breastfed dd for 6 months at this point and had not had leaking until then (and didn't again throughout the pregnancy)

If anyone is still watching this thread, it turns out that milk secretions were a sign of pg for me - I got a BFP today
